Will a hen go broody again?

Just get a silkie. I currently have 8 out of 10 silkie hens brooding.

First time incubating. Think they need help!

4 degrees is still too much fluctuation. In still air you want 102 at the top of the egg. Over 104 for any length of time will kill them.

Chickens don’t like change so that with the heat would definitely throw them off laying. Mine freak out when I completely clean their coop. What kind of incubator are you using?

Ridgefield, but would drive up to an hour to meet up.

First time incubating. Think they need help!

Temp fluctuations can cause all kinds of problems. I’d use the guides on here and assist at this point.

How long for an egg to hatch....

Depends on what kind of quail but I thought 16 days. Keep humidity up and give it a bit more time.

    Silkie rooster or hen?

Looks like a cockerel to me.

    Cold eggs

They won’t be moving much if they’re cold but if heated up again are likely fine. The internal egg temperature is more stable than shell temperature. Did she give up entirely? Do you have an incubator? Is it hot out where you are?

    Hatching shipped eggs

IME if the chick has developed well the saddle shaped air cells aren’t an issue at draw-down. They draw down into normal shapes and the chick pips fine. The only problem is if it caused an issue with the chick getting into position to hatch. I keep an eye out for pips outside of the air cell.

    New and confused

I would give more time. They did not look like quitters to me.

    New and confused

The air cells look fine but overall development is less than would be expected for Day 21. I’d guess Day 17-19.

    New and confused

Those look a bit small. Looks like low temperatures. Give them more time.

    Hatching Bantams?

I think humidity also plays a large part with mixed egg hatches. Bantams tend to have thinner shells and in my experience need higher humidity. I aim for 50% first 18 up to 70-75% at lockdown.

    Do I do anything?

I’d candle and see which are developing, etc.
