    Coop and Run sizing question

I know this is one of the most asked questions around here, but there are so many specifics when figuring things out that i would like some personalized input. i have had a flock for 6 years now, but the "fall" (yeah, the foot of snow on the ground suggests we missed that) we are planning on...

    Etsy?

i've decided to bump this thread from awhile ago, because i have once again gotten myself addicted to Etsy and would love to have some more shops to browse . i'm sure more of you have shops, so please share! thanks

i completely agree. it seems like the "people" in the whole "of the people for the people" idea has become "dollars". they don't care what the most people want, they only care what the most money wants.

wow. just, wow. it is hard to believe that these people are so either evil or incompetent (or both). they are making a complete farce out of our legal system. good luck next month.

    Growing fodder for chickens

mine were like that the first time i fed it to them. now it barely lasts long enough to hit the floor it seems. once they figure out what it is and get a taste for it, they love it.

are you sure the "mold" you are seeing isn't actually the fuzzy little root fibers? they look a lot like mold but are actually part of the plant. if you look closely the root fibers rather evenly coat each larger root strand, whereas mold will be clumpy and uneven. it can be really hard to tell.

lol, that is the question i keep asking myself. somewhere without a lot of people, a real winter, but still able to have a decent veggie garden. oh, and decent internet (DH runs an IT company, kind of need the internet for that). not many places seem to fit that bill.

    New to chickens

how old are your pullets? i don't think i know of anything that can get them to lay earlier, and trying to do so could probably be risky, as younger pullets are often more prone to problems than mature hens when it comes to laying. you probably just have to wait for them to start on their own...

    Chick problems

make sure to keep them somewhat protected from the others until they recover. chicks aren't especially aware of each other and can trample smaller or weaker chicks, even right away.

    Really dumb question....

x2. last year i tried to introduce a Polish to my mixed flock, and it didn't go well. the other birds almost killed him a few times before i did some flock rearranging with a friend and got the problem birds out of the flock. stick with "normal" looking birds will probably be easiest.

    Growing fodder for chickens

i have one of those, i've decided to alternate sprouts for my salad and fodder for my chickens. it works great and i haven't had any issues with mold in it yet. can't do a lot at a time, but it is still a nice treat for the birds. one thing to keep in mind, though, the fodder will get taller...

keeping bedding in the nest boxes

now that is a good idea. plenty of feed bags lying around, might as well use a few of them. i will give this a try.
