    What am I doing wrong..?

Ridgerunner, Thanks for your information-packed reply. Running everything in my head, I'm wondering about storage. The quail eggs had been sitting for days to weeks before I started incubating, so who knows about the freshness. I did have a turner, so they were turned adequately, but I...

    What am I doing wrong..?

Hello, two months ago a friend gave me fertilized quail eggs and I bought one of those styrofoam incubators. I researched temps and humidity and set everything up. I bought an automatic turner. Took them off at 14 days to settle. Seventeen days later, nothing. Waited... 19 days later... nothing...

The Waiting is the Hardest Part

Peacock Experiment, Part Deux... The peahens laid their eggs about 4 weeks ago, and we've been on chick watch for last three days (counted 28 days from the time they started setting on the eggs). How long do we wait to start rousting and checking eggs? Also, both hens decided to split eggs...

    Age of Sexual Characteristics

? Boy meets girl ? I have been raising my peachicks, and today I noticed my white chick jump on top of another chick, grab its head and start, um, "going to town." The chicks are just over a month old... I had my fingers crossed that the white would be a boy. Is this a good sign, or do they...

    My Peacock Experiment

My hens are laying for the first time and I have a total of three eggs now... there's nice clean shavings in the main coop (where we moved the first egg as above) and they both have chosen to lay the next two out in the dirt in the middle of the barn. We've moved and gathered the eggs to a safer...

    My Peacock Experiment

I call this "Peachicks in Repose" They are out while their box gets cleaned. They love dried mealworms and are learning to eat out of our hands. Today they tried lettuce for the first time. Can't get them to eat fruit yet, but I think it's because I can't get it looking stringy like the meal...

    My Peacock Experiment

The peeps this morning... can't tell the purples apart, which made me wonder, at what age do you leg band..? Are there bands like dog tags that can let someone know where to call if found..? I've read the article on banding but didn't really go into how leg grows into band, age to band etc...
