Oh no! She could be an internal layer. She finished with her molt several weeks ago and hasn't laid since. She is a high production breed, and older for a layer. Her abdomen is larger than normal, and I think she has lost weight. She has always been a skinny bird though. If she is an...
Hi all,
I have a hen(named Princess) who is very lethargic, not moving around very much, has very watery/mucus consistency manure, and is not eating anything. She is 4-ish year old Golden Comet and has never had this problem before. It probably started about a week ago. She stopped eating a...
Help! Francesca picked off her scab. The wound is actually looking much better, but I am worried that she will hurt herself or make herself sick by eating the Betadine or Neosporin I put on the open wound. Should I put a bandage on? But I've heard that you should' nt so the wound can air...
I'm sorry, reading back on it, it is confusing. Actually, I meant if I continued to give her aspirin even when she was well, would anything bad happen to her. Sorry for the mix up.
Ok, I have one more question regarding the use of aspirin. Francesca is looking much better, praise God! I have been letting her outside during the day and she hasn't been pecked or anything. And she doesn't seem to be in any pain. Should I stop giving her aspirin? I probably will soon...
Is it okay to feed acorns to my hens? Even the ones that are bruised? And have grubs in them? I have in the past, and nothing has happened to them, but I was just wondering. Thanks for taking the time to read.
I have been putting Betadine and Neosporin on Francesca twice a day. She was bitten by my neighbor's dog. However, the wound is closing, and as long as infection doesn't set in, I think she will survive.
This picture was taken a few days ago, and it already looks better. The brown stuff at...
Thanks for all your answers, guys! I gave Francesca 1/4 of a 81mg chewable cherry aspirin. I guess that is a baby aspirin maybe. She seems to have perked up already.
I couldn't find baby aspirin in the several drug stores I went to, but I read that I could give them regulary aspirin. Could I crumble a 81mg aspirin tablet over some yogurt and give that to her? Or would it be too strong? What is the difference between baby and regular aspirin?
One of my hens recently usurped one who was higher on the list then her, so maybe that is what is happening. Or maybe "one just wanted to lay and the other one didn't want to be disturbed." If they didn't draw blood, it probably isn't that serious.
Can I use aspirin for my sick hen? She seems to be in a little pain, and I know that I can give it to her, but what is the correct dosage? Preferably, I would give it to her with food rather than disolved in water, as it is easier for me to get her to eat than to drink. Thanks for taking the...
Thanks for the answer! I've heard that chickens are pretty hardy, and Francesca' s wound sounds a lot better than yours, so I guess she has a pretty good chance of survival. BTW, I love your avatar. Is the horse yours? Anyway, thanks for the advice.
