Integrating mama hen and single chick back into flock

That makes sense. I figured it was probably too late to introduce a new chick to her, but I'm new to this so I thought I'd ask. I don't think I'll try it. I'll just cross my fingers and hope that my flock won't make this little guy/girl's life too rough.

Integrating mama hen and single chick back into flock

Ridgerunner, do you think the mother hen would accept another chick or two if I bought some from Rural King?

Integrating mama hen and single chick back into flock

Thank you all so much for the feedback. I'll try turning everyone out to free range tomorrow and see how things go. I'll be around to intervene if things go too badly. I'm also hoping the chick isn't a cockerel. I know having 4 roosters right now is pressing my luck. I just figured for as long...

Integrating mama hen and single chick back into flock

I have a flock of 16 chickens...all less than a year old. We bought them as chicks last spring. We have 12 hens and 4 roosters (3 old english bantam hens and 1 rooster, 1 silkie rooster, 2 bantam cochin hens, 1 standard cochin rooster, 7 Isa brown hens and a RIR rooster). They were all raised...

Hen hatching eggs - internal pip 12 hours ago - now nothing.

When I got home from work today, the egg was laying outside of the nest and was cold. Still no sign of an external pip. We did and eggtopsy and found that the yolk was fully absorbed and the chick was in the right position. I'm not sure what went wrong. I just hate that it didnt make it. 😔 It...

Hen hatching eggs - internal pip 12 hours ago - now nothing.

I'm going to make myself sound like a total fool, but I'm at a loss and hoping someone can offer some advice. I have a bantam cochin hen that went broody last month. After taking her eggs for a week or so, we finally decided to her try her hand at motherhood. We made several mistakes along the...

Assorted bantam bin - Can you tell what these are?

I guess I should have clarified...I'm not worried about sexing them yet. I'd just like to know the breed. (Fingers crossed for cochins.) 😉

Color/Gender of these 10 week old Wayndottes and Cochin?

And just because they're too cute not to share, here are my 3 "little chicks". I enjoyed raising the "big 3" so much that my husband agreed to 3 more. :) These chicks are 4 weeks old. I'm not sure what the black and buff/red chicks are. They came from the assorted banham bin at Rural King. I'm...

Color/Gender of these 10 week old Wayndottes and Cochin?

This is my first time raising chickens. I adopted them at 2 weeks old after my (adult) daughter lost 6 ducklings in a massacre and decided she was done trying to keep poultry. She told me the two black chicks were Wyandottes and the gray one was a silkie. It's definitely not a silkie. After lots...
