We understand the red on the comb, but my rooster has black and white dots on his comb. What does that mean? It is DEFINITELY not frostbite because I live in Texas and right now it is the summer. Can you tell me what this could mean? THX
We just noticed our rooster, the only one, has bleeding on his comb. We live in Texas and its hot, so no frostbite but it does look dar when it dries. Its only a little bit but I can't figure out what happened. Do you think the hens might have done it? Why would they just all of a sudden start...
I have 3 6 month old hens. 2 Americaunas and a BO. My BO just started laying finally, yesterday but the Amer aren't even looking close. What is up? They should have started over a month ago right? Nothing is unusual about them or their environment; seem content, eating well, happy hens. Help!
I am so sorry for your loss. We started our chick family back in Nov and lost 2 about the same age as yours, we were heart broken and had no idea what happened. We still had 4 more so they didn't cry but they showed signs of loss. I am glad you are getting another one and I love the mirror idea...
Am I supposed to put a food container and water container in both inside the coop AND the outside run area of coop? hoping to not have to put up and maintain 4 containers.
Our hen that has what appears to be a dislocated leg or else it was broken, we didn't know and it healed strangely - that foot is sort of swollen compared to her other foot. We are just trying to figure out anything we can do to help her. She seems fine otherwise - eats, drinks, doesn't walk...
It's the one in my profile pic sorry, the other two look identical and hang out together every minute so we think of them as the "evil twins" while the other two play mom and dad. Interesting that the dad one who started trying to crow is injured and the other one will scratch and back up for...
I have a question about my 4 hens. When all are hens is it normal for one to take on the "father" role and be the head of the family and another to take on the "mother" role and then the kids? This seems to be the case with our 4 and I want to be sure its normal. I know about pecking order but...
Sorry. I would have to dig up an awful lot of it so I didn't think I would be actually digging it myself at the river. Thought I could have it trucked in. Lol
Yes those are oak trees. There are actually about 100 on the acre property. Had a tough time finding a spot to fit the coop. But it will get lots of shade.
Just trying to be sure not to get something that is too dusty. I have read that reg play sand is dusty and I want to be sure it clumps the poop a bit so I can sift it. I think I might try the sand I found at Home Depot called "natural play sand". It was super smooth and silky feeling. Seemed...
