Hi. I have one HUGE Aseel rooster, a Sumatra hen, and an Aseel/Sumatran cross hen. 3 birds, and the Aseel/Sumatran hen is brooding!! I have not counted her eggs ;) I am in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. I bought the Aseel a few years ago from a local breeder. The hen is from Cackle Hatchery (who has...
Amprolium in the feed. It completely changed the "aroma" from sickening stench of some birds I had to fresh yoghurt. Sounds to me like a bacterial issue but I am no doctor. Just guessing.
I got a hen from an acquaintance, Ive always been very suspicious of her as she was undernourished, sneezed, and did not appear quite well. I noticed several of the blisters and the photos provided here may as well be MY bird. It looks exactly the same. Darnit. Has anyone had birds that...
She's nine mo. old- I should think she's old enough by now. She's been very interested in nesting areas, picking over them, & if I come near the nest box she rushes over and gets all possessive over it- something she's never done before. She definitely is acting different than she usually is, I...
No eggs yet guys- theyve been busy mating all day :) you have no idea- Ive been waiting for the day they mate for so long. Hen finally "gave in". Reason I am anxious is because I promised the roo to a nice guy who Ive done poultry business with before &I know he won't abuse the roo by fighting...
Aseel roo, Blue Sumatra hen. So, hatch date for those two March 18th (Cackle Hatchery) sorry no pic of hen - too busy to deal with picture taking right now. They get the most varied diet you can imagine- cooked rice & veg, meat, live bugs, fresh grain (sorghum, millet and indian corn & whatever)...
OK, so what if he is showing aggression? So what? it's not as if he's 200 lbs and could kill me. I don't worry about it- if he is aggressive, as long as he can't harm me, I won't give it a thought. There are some very, very expensive bulls- as in bovines, not chickies- that are aggressive. If...
Pic is of an 18 week old cockerel- he's not even fully adult yet-
Sorry that doesn't appear to be Asil. Asil's are very proud, upright, sleek yet muscular- like an eagle. That one's stubby, almost stocky. Maybe an Asil cross? it could be one of the sub-breeds in Pakistan- they have SO many...
Cackle's aren't aggressive?? I have a 20 week old cockerel that flew up like a cobra and bit me. He bites or "stabs" me with his beak every time I enter their pen. I take it as a "love bite" :). He's just letting me know who's the boss of his flock. I adore the breed. I actually bought them to...
Well, what's your location? I may have some later- Cackle Hatchery will have some this summer. You can place an order, and they ship them when they're ready. I think Asil's are one of the earliest to be shipped this year (June? July?) but you'd have to check with them.
I am keen on rarer breeds. I bought Asil's & I think a Saipan sold as an Asil (aren't they about the same thing?) & some long tailed Japanese. Terrible for eggs, but just being a small household we don't require too many (eggs) anyway.
I'm considering Fayoumi. They are so small! Cute. There are some free range Fayoumi's not far from my home. I am in Arizona where of course it gets pretty hot.
the "handprint" is raccoon I suspect- the other I assumed was domestic dog- til I checked this: https://survivalmagazine.org/outdoor-survival/hunting/dog-track-coyote-tracks/ coyotes digits are awful close together. We have sooo many of them here in AZ. I was unaware the deep South had many of...
I grew up on a ranch with about every farm animal there is- & German Shepherds. I wouldn't even worry about them with the birds. They're more likely going to protect your flock, which is an extension of your family, than harm them. For choice of which breed, I would get any breed that's a good...
