These are the sweetest chickens! Never owned this breed before. Do the roos get spurs? Will they always be this nice? Mine are crowing now.....but purr and chirp when I come around. One even lets me hold and pet him!
I am probably going to install a box fan at one end of the coop this weekend. Circulate the air for them. They have a run that is completely shaded but it's still hot. Will freeze some veggies for them too. Florida summers can be brutal!
What are some of the ways you guys are keeping your flock cool this summer? Mine does not free range and the temps have really ramped up. I want to keep them comfortable!! Thanks...

Is it true what they say about butchering away from the rest of the chickens? So they won't be traumatized or is that just being overly dramatic? Do chickens know or even care? You would think it would cause a commotion.
Great info! At what age would be best to butcher? They seem awful scrawny to me despite their age. And they eat well. Just figured they should be pretty fat first.

She hatched them........most are black, two are same color as she is. (multi colored) She has singled out a black one and constantly chases it. Weirdest thing. There's nothing wrong with the chick.....so I have no idea why she would turn on it.
