Pullet not preening? Feather health tips?

That’s a great idea! Right now we feed in two separate bowls but I could definitely put some stuff in between them.

Pullet not preening? Feather health tips?

No, but I do believe it’s nutritionally complete. There are more than 15 ingredients (including mineral sources) plus they get varied treats and scraps. I cannot use most commercial animal feed products because I have wheat allergy anaphylaxis and can’t come in contact with anything that has...

Pullet not preening? Feather health tips?

Homemade. The others seem to be doing fine on it. From further observation I think she may be being bullied? She gets shooed away from the food bowl and the others don’t seem to let her dust bathe. She spends most of her time on the roost to avoid being chased. I’ve begun feeding her a handful...

Pullet not preening? Feather health tips?

My current best guess is that she molted badly back in August/Sept when her adult feathers finally came in and it's too cold now to do anything about it. Thankfully she has grown a lot of fluff to make up for it. I might keep giving her regular baths to help those sheaths loosen. She just let me...

Pullet not preening? Feather health tips?

they’re about 8 months old now. My most mature hen started laying at 7 months and lays 3 eggs every 4 days, very consistent.

Pullet not preening? Feather health tips?

This is a bit of a graphic pic of her vent lol but this is what her butt looks like after the wash. I removed a lot of the poop but there’s still a lot on there (it’s more like the normal amount now?) But you can see how much sheathing has been retained on her feathers. It’s like that all over...

Pullet not preening? Feather health tips?

yeah hopefully that’s the case. It’s also possible that winter is uncomfortable for her. We are in Ontario.

Pullet not preening? Feather health tips?

Yeah, all the bases of her feathers are clean, they just have really long retained sheaths

Pullet not preening? Feather health tips?

I haven't seen any signs of mites. Her feet are looking pretty good, although she tends to walk on the sides of her third toes so her nails are long there.

Here she is before and after her bath. You can see how bad her tail feathers are.

Pullet not preening? Feather health tips?

As I washed her, the water beaded up on her back. Does that mean that her oil gland is working properly? Might be something to rule out.

Pullet not preening? Feather health tips?

Hi y'all! My SG Dorkings are taking their sweet time coming into lay but one in particular seems to be having a difficult time and has stopped developing. All the others are getting bigger redder combs and one has been laying for about a month now. But Marina, her comb is still small and pink...

    Dorkings

Our SG dorkings just started laying. Well, I should say one of them started laying. We have five hens and only one has fully matured yet and they are 8 months old. These are our first two eggs

How do you count the points on a comb?

I know this is an old thread but how would you count the points on Amaranth here? Seems like he’s got way too many!! I tried to tell him.

New cockerel with excessive saliva and yellow on tongue

I have a 10wk old cockerel that I think is going through this same thing. 2 weeks ago we moved our chicks out to the coop and the following morning I found him with a string hanging out of his mouth. When i tried to gently pull it out of his mouth it looked like his tongue was coming along with...
