    Babies got moved...finally...pic heavy

Well, a couple of weeks ago, I finally moved the then 6-week-old chicks from the brooder to their new home in the Buckeye Boudoir! Checking things out and trying to figure out what the white pipes are for. Still wondering where they are...the brooder was much smaller! What the heck is...

    Backwards "when to introduce"...

Yuppers - the birds seem to like Vodka - no noticeable evidence of drinking until they start weaving! The wife is assistant manager at a local liquor store - that's the empty box I grabbed to use for trash a few days ago!

    Backwards "when to introduce"...

Thanks, Den! That's pretty much what I did yesterday. I found out about a man here in the area who had a 4-month-old BR roo he didn't want, so I decided to take him in - not with the Buckeyes, with the older girls (3 RIRs, 3 NHRs, 3 Ameracaunas, 3 BRs). So I went ahead and moved Maggie to the...

    Backwards "when to introduce"...

I have just moved 13 6-week-old Buckeyes into their own coop - and they'll have their own run very soon. Going to try my hand at small-level Buckeye raising - 12 hens, one rooster, Now here's the backwards part: I have a lone Buckeye pullet 16 weeks old mixed in with 12 other mixed hens I'll...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

Been building a used pallet coop - almost complete. Here's the start of what will end up being a "L"-shaped poop tray extending a total of about 16 feet - 10' across the rear wall and 6 ' across the adjoining side wall: Half a used pallet - about 22" wide - will be two placed end-to-end...

    Having trouble editing coop page

I'm trying to edit my coop page, and having some issues... (1) Can't seem to place pics side-by-side anymore, which increases the space being taken up! (2) After typing a paragraph, hitting "enter" causes the cursor to go to the top of the page, rather than letting a new paragraph start...

How to Keep Chickens From being Bored

My wife cooks wheat spaghetti - the girls love the leftovers! And they completely enjoy watermelon and fruit - seem to ignore pineapple chunks, though. By the way...that was a full "watermelon bowl" when it was put out there!

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Not necessarily a stupid thing said by my wife...actually pretty funny, in a sick sort of way! My oldest hens are at 15 1/2 weeks, and should start laying any time. My other half told them - yeah, you're reading that right - told them that if they don't start laying soon, they're going to...

    Recycled chicken coop

Here's my pallet coop - lots of room for the birds, and still under $100.

how old should chicks/chickens to eat egg shells?

OK, I'm curious. We are starting to save and crush egg shells - the girls should be laying any time now (15 weeks old). But this is the first I've ever heard about cooking them! Does this improve the calcium, make them taste better, or what?
