In lockdown, lost power - please ease my mind!

If the chick is making a hole and not turning in it's shell, making a "cap" on the top of the egg to push out, then it probably is stuck. It's okay to wait a few hours, and if it hasn't progressed, take the egg out of the bator and "help" it out. Take bits of the shell off and if you start...

    Expected Temp Spike?

Though it is not preferred, I candled earliest on day 3 (but you can probably candle earlier if your super duper careful). I used to candle my eggs every day, but I stopped doing it because I didn't want to hurt the embryo.

Hatching chick is stinky. Is it okay?

To answer your first question, yes, there is normally waste matter at the bottom of every egg After hatch (at least my eggs). The chick is stinky because it had to be in with the poop in it's shell. The next question is herder to answer because I don't know your situation. I would leave the eggs...

    When does lockdown start???

I wait till the first internal pip to increase humidity, but take the eggs out of the turner on day 18-19 (it depends on how fast the growing in the incubator proccess goes: higher temps equal faster hatch so stop turning on day 18, lower temps are opposite).

    IS MY EGG DEAD???URGENT HELP

These are all NORMAL things for every one of my eggs. I've hatched a couple batches and have always noticed this thing. I would not play with the egg too much as that can cause the abnormalities in hatching. Just be patient as patience helps people NOT make drastic decisions and end up ruining...

This is my first time incubating eggs!!

What brand and type of incubator are you using? I would know how to help better if I knew that info. I never clean my eggs, mostly because when you cleanse (wash) your eggs, you get rid of an inti-bacterial coating on the eggs that blocks bacteria from entering and infecting the egg through its...

Help! Video: Chick Hatched with yolk not yet absorbed!

You're not supposed to turn during the last three days of incubation. Otherwise, you wil get them stuck in a place that will kill them before hatch. If your turner turned off, then that was good. I always just take the turner out and put the eggs on their sides the last three days, into lockdown.

    Advice on Candling Eggs

Hey, don't worry about them blowing up on you if their dead. I've gone through a whole hatch with a dead egg and not have it blow up on me. The picture looks like the chick is dead, but it's early. I would wait until day 7 to throw the obvious dead eggs out. The only time a dead egg explodes, is...

Temps. Might have been consistant, but it sounds like you had it low. Should be higher.

    Curved wire floor in incubator

I just cut pieces of wood to hold it up in the center. You can bend it over your knees as well, curved end, down, pushing against your knees. I use gloves with this since the wire can poke you.

    Hen or Rooster?

The "picking fights" is a sign of a chicken showing dominance and creating a pecking order. This is also more common in males than females earlier on. All chickens will be fiesty with each other, though. I honestly think it's too early to tell, but if you think it's showing signs of being a...

    Turkey egg coating.

This is very normal. All hens (or female birds) lay eggs that have a special wax-like coating (that can vary in thickness) which helps block bacteria and contaminates from entering the pores in the egg shell; this is why poop from the bird does not contaminate the eggs. Note: do not wash eggs...

Should an embryo be jiggly or fixed?

I've fixed my post for you :)

Should an embryo be jiggly or fixed?

If there's no blood rings or cloudy eggs, leave them in the bator. The "jiggly" embryos you're seeing are a sign that your embryos are not sticking to the egg membrane (which is good). If some embryos are stuck to the egg membrane, they'll die. So flip them over more often (do not tilt the whole...
