I am starting to get my first turkey eggs and I noticed when I wash them they have a film or coating that is almost wax like. Is this normal?

This is very normal. All hens (or female birds) lay eggs that have a special wax-like coating (that can vary in thickness) which helps block bacteria and contaminates from entering the pores in the egg shell; this is why poop from the bird does not contaminate the eggs. Note: do not wash eggs for eating until you are ready to eat them, because when you wash them, you remove that waxy coating, which can reduce egg freshness and shelf life in half. Hope that was the answer you were looking for. :)
