Feeding your LGD when you have turkeys

The turkeys choose to sleep outside. Right by my backdoor, incidentally where the dog gets fed. They keep an ear out and an eye open for any late night feedings. They are obsessed. The toms anyway. Some of the hens sleep inside. I suppose that may change as the weather gets colder. And...

Feeding your LGD when you have turkeys

I am sure she's over 5. She was given to me because she had food aggression with other dogs. She would snarl and growl and keep the turkeys off.. but now they overwhelm her. I do feed at the same time. They just happen to prefer the dog food. Right now there are 7 toms who are problematic...

Feeding your LGD when you have turkeys

Wonder how long it would take (days, weeks) her to settle down enough to eat. She does NOT like to be separated. We've tried a stall, a room in the house, a kennel. She won't settle. She's anxious about her flock.

I don't know what that is.

If the turkeys don't have access, then the dog doesn't have access.

Feeding your LGD when you have turkeys

How do you feed your LGD (mine is a Great Pyrenees) when the turkeys will push her out of the way and steal all of her food? Have you found an outdoor RFID feeder that will work. It's just crazy.

    Peachick color?

Here we are at nearly 9 weeks on my youngest 3. The first is obviously a female. I am thinking #2 is male. Number 3 & 4 pics are the same bird at different angles. Has me stumped. Again, I would be delighted if they are all girls. Your expertise is greatly appreciated!

You are referring to pic #6 for the hen comment? I would be so delighted!

    Peachick color?

Updated pics on all 10. 7 are 11 weeks, 3 are 7 weeks. I believe I have 3 girls and 3 boys in the 7 with the one in the 6th picture on the right that is stumping me. He/she has scallops in front but is so dark. I still do not know about the 3 seven week olds.

    Feed Protein level confusion

I get my feed from Sauder in Grabill, IN. They suggested Game Bird Starter for peas, turkeys, and pheasants. (They are all the same family.) I have only been raising for 5 years, but I have had no problems whatsoever with the game bird feed.

    Peachick color?

I think, and I can be wrong, the ones that marked with a yellow line are male, and the ones I marked with a blue line are female.. seems, their neck feathers are more scalloped instead of the way the boys neck feathers look. The little ones, I think number three is a male.

Update.. after studying the pics.. I believe I have 3 girls in the older group and 2 in the younger group. :)

    Peachick color?

I sure hope these young ones are girls, because it looks like I only have one girl in the older group and that would be the black shoulder girl, unless anybody with better expertise can tell me otherwise...
