Because they have to announce their accomplishment to the world! 😂 We have a Welsummer that will join in on the “egg song” with each of the other girls when they lay. Plus, if she wants to lay and someone else is in HER box, she will throw a HUGE fit. It’s so funny how they’ll use 1 box out of 6...
You can buy ceramic eggs at your local stores. That’s what I used to stop an egg eater. Worked like a charm. I did have to write FAKE on it because my husband kept collecting it with the others. 😂
That’s not necessarily true. I have witnessed the stacking of new on old. I, also, have gotten old, moldy food from TSC twice. Both times they gave me new bags, but this shouldn’t be happening. They need to look at their practices and do what’s right.
Our city gives out free mulch. We mound it up to fill our run with the mulch about once a year. It really helped with our water problem and the chickens love it!
We’ve been in a construction zone for the last 3+ years. We were the 3rd buyers in a new addition that now has about 50 houses. That hasn’t affected my girls at all. They’ll get used to it.
I had this happen once, and discovered that the bedding I had bought was full of mites! I pulled it all out, treated the area and the girls, and replaced with new bedding. They roosted back in the coop immediately.
You don’t have to leave them. You’re going to an area that has a more similar temperature and humidity than I did when I moved from Vancouver, WA to Tulsa, OK. I brought 5 hens that we loaded up in a coop in the back of the pickup. Every time we stopped for gas, the ladies got fresh water. Not...
I have had two prefabs that I use when I integrate new chicks. One barely made it through one year. My older hens all live in a double door wooden shed kit that I bought from Lowe’s. Paid less for it than I would have a home-built chicken coop. Laid only half the floor down, built a wall so that...
I don’t see any signs of a roo, either. Looks female to me. I have a Welsummer hen that mounts my other girls regularly. She’s definitely top of the pecking order!
Question: how much of each of the dry ingredients do you start with: 1/2 cup; 1 cup? Do you use smaller amounts of the fun add-ins? Just trying to get it right. Thanks.
It absolutely does in all-female flocks. After my alpha Gold Sex Link died, my Welsummer started mounting the other hens. Guess she wants to be the new alpha.
