Has anyone purchased chicks from Hilltop Farms in California? *Do not buy from Hilltop Farms! Negative experiences are in the thread!!!*

I am having the same problem right now. I’ve spent over $400 on 18 chickens. I have 7 left. They happily replace free of charge those who died within 48 hours but the ones that died 3 to 5 days later they said was environmental. I sent pictures of my set up and they didn’t understand why they...

    Two brooding silkies

I appreciate everybody’s responses. It’s helped me out a lot. I think I’m going to keep the two brooding hens together separate from the rest of the flock. If it doesn’t work out I’ll let you know LOL

    Two brooding silkies

Thank you! I think I will keep the two together separated from the rest of the flock. Then just deal with integrating them at a later date. I do have two coops and two runs so that will help

    Two brooding silkies

Thank you 😊. The problem is they are low on the pecking order. I would love to keep them with the other chickens but I separated them because the other hens were picking on them while they aware brooding.

    Two brooding silkies

They are pretty low in the pecking order. I have a variety of birds I have Kochen ‘s, Sussex, barred rock and silky rooster‘s and others. so in your experience you think that the babies will be OK with the other hen that’s brooding

    Two brooding silkies

They are separated from the other chickens, so it’s just the two of them in the brooder. I’m just concerned that the hen who’s chicks haven’t hatched yet will harm the chicks that have hatched from the other hen. So ....I have one who’s eggs are hatching as we speak, and the other hens eggs...

    Two brooding silkies

I have two brooding silkies. They are about two weeks apart from hatching. Today I noticed two baby chicks have already hatched from one of the hens. My question is will the other hen who does not have any hatching yet harm the other baby chicks? Should I separate them? I would hate to have...

Hi I’m just getting familiar with this forum. No rain at all. We could use it with all the fires around. It was in the 80’s today. Super nice day!

Fortunately I do have a vet nearby that works with chickens. But do you think All her eggs would be lash Or would some of her eggs be normal too?

    Strange white ball inside egg

I I cracked open an egg yesterday and found a white rock looking thing about the size of a dime inside the egg. It turned out to be soft. The consistency was like that of flour and water paste. Anyone know what this is? It is not attached chalaza

Hi! My name is Angie. I started raising chickens 4 years ago. I started with 5 and it’s so true that you get addicted and will want more. I now have 13 and am planning on adding a few more next spring. I have always found good information on BYC and figured it was time to join. My flock and I...
