I don't know if it works, but my mother used to un-broody a hen by taking her off the nest and hosing her down good with a garden hose. I was 5 or 6 when I watched this interesting method. I am now 77. Might be worth a try...
Actually a 12 ga. at 15 feet only spreads to about a 2 inch circle. You need to get farther away, say about 30 feet and then you will get a little spread to the shot pattern and no guts, just a little blood.
