Thank you for the feedback, everyone. The idea of removing her from the flock sounds ideal, but, unfortunately, we don't have a second coop, so no one can be removed from the flock. Any other ideas? I will try and do more research on the poultry blinders.
Hi everyone! So, I have three hens. Up until recently, my New Hampshire Red, Piper, was always the leader of the flock, but it seems as if she has been bumped down to the bottom, and now my Sicillian Buttercup, Maple, is flock leader. It's strange that she is now the leader because she is very...
soooooo, i got a super duper small egg! my girls eggs are usually quite large, so this petite egg kinda worries me. its about the size of....hmmm...in terms of height its about an 1 1/2 inches tall and 1 inch wide, but im bad with measurement so i could be wrong. what does a super small egg...
It sounds like a tricky situation! I would not support tying them up, because not only would the birds not like it, but I think it could be harmful to themselves as well. I totally understand wanting to let them out of their run, but if its dangerous you might have to re-consider. We also live...
Thanks everyone! She was a great girl. Here are some pics of my coop. You can see the board that we use to lock them up each night leaning against the coop. And in another pic you see the gap where the board locks into place.
So, my family is thinking of moving to Brooklyn, and I own a book about owing chickens in cites, but I wanted to know if there is anyone out there who has secret flocks!
We would have a house with a backyard of course, and only hens. I have 4 hens now, and they would come with us. So, is there...
One of my favorite girls, Olive, disappeared last night. She is a smaller bird, who probably would not have put up a very good fight. So, every night, once it gets dark out, we lock all of our chickens in the secure part of their coop. So even if animal digs a hole under the run it still can't...
This is by far the best breed I have! Piper is very tame, loves to be picked up and snuggled, is funny, very smart, very healthy, brave and she lays great eggs. I would get a lot more of these If I had the room! I reccomend these birds to anyone who has other pets and kids. She is not scared of...
My Penny is my biggest girl, but she is almost on the bottom of the pecking order. she hangs out with my 2 smallest girls and they have their own little click! so cute! She is calm, but freaks out when people try to touch her. Sheis getting better every day in terms of her being scared of...
I have 1 plymouth rock, and shes great! If I had to pick one of my girls to be the best family hen it would be Sydney. She is calm, nice, easy going, and very tame!! I would defineatly get more of these if I had the room. very satisfied.
