The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

My 9 babies, yep homework getting pushed back into the morning I'd much rather hang with these babies . (took this pic quickly tonight and forgot to put paper towel down over the newspaper, but they weren't in there longer than it took to grab the paper towel up from their crate, graduated...

Makes me feel a little better knowing I am not alone ... I'll be way more careful next time and make sure I wait the full extra days and when I do check/discard I do it very very carefully.

Next time I will try the float test, I've never done one (although I've heard and read around it). I love my birds so very much too, I will be more cautious next time that's a guarantee, just sad this one paid the price because of my armature self... Such is life I suppose.

Well the first eggs few eggs I pulled were in fact...

The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

I was, WAS, going to chill in my room and watch a little t.v. before I went to bed in a few, BUT I have a chick that hatched maybe 20 minutes ago (took less than 8 hrs to hatch, quickest one yet!!!), it concerned my a little because when it hatched it had its little belly sticking up (laying on...

lol yes it is, but I blame it on the fact I'm aspiring to be a veterinarian . Plus it keeps things interesting around here, and it would be too quiet without them (although I'd love to find my foster dogs their homes, two have been here since they and their siblings were 6 weeks old, found homes...

My drake is a Pekin and the hen the egg came from is an Indian runner (I think anyways, never did get a good idea of what she is, maybe a mix?). This duckling is sooo cute though! Haven't had tiny babies in four years!

Peeping really works! My duckling is peeping up a storm in the incubator visiting all the eggs and I now have a chicken egg that's pipped!!! Come on little chicks, the ducklings are beating you~! lol I did set these guys on March 9th at 12:04 pm(ducks March 2nd at 12:02pm) BUT I've always had...

The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

I noticed this little guy's pip on wed "night" at around 1 am. When I went to bed last night (11:30) he/she had no progress other than a slightly larger pip hole it could stick it's beak out of. This morning my moms like "you have a baby" and boom there he/she is :) I've never hatched duck eggs...
