Chickens, roosters, and the mystery of no eggs.

Okay. They did stop laying consistently mid-August. I should still suspect the fall weather and the decrease in daylight?

Chickens, roosters, and the mystery of no eggs.

So we've had a huge decrease in egg laying since the beginning of August...down to no eggs at all this week. We have nine hens and a rooster. While I'm aware that there's often a decrease in egg laying in the fall, I just wanted to verify that everyone is healthy and I'm not overlooking any...

    Fermented feed

I’ve been fermenting my chicks’ unmedicated feed and they love it. But I feel like I don’t have a good container for storing it while it it ferments. What does everyone else use?

    Painting coop interior

I don’t mind touching it up every so often. I’m not sure how much exterior paint I have but I can check. There was a ton left here by the previous owners and a lot of variety. They left a first coat of something that seemed to be holding up well, but definitely not a thorough paint job.

    Painting coop interior

We’re working on cleaning out and prepping a shed for our chicken coop. I’d like to paint the interior With some of the paint that we have. We have lots of acrylic based trim paint, some deck paint, and interior home paint. Would any of those work for inside the coop?

    Buying a coop

@aart here are pictures of the eaves. My husbands concern with this one is it is too close to the house. He was worried about the smell of chicken poop, and asked me to “check with the chicken people” if it will be a problem. As I mentioned before it’s about 20 feet from the house.

Barred Rock, is she a she?

Hi there! This little gal is always friendly, but she’s always been just a little ahead as far as her waddles and comb, so I was hoping for some thoughts. Boy or girl? She’s 12 weeks tomorrow.

    Buying a coop

Okay. What would need to be done to second shed to make it chicken ready? We can keep the three in their current set up till it’s ready to move in. I know we need a run, I am kind of thinking a hoop with cattle panels might be a good option. It will definitely need to be covered as we have hawks.

    Buying a coop

We just moved here in the fall so we don’t know yet but based on some averages I’ve read our highest highs are about 80.

    Buying a coop

    What makes you say that?

    Buying a coop

This is the other option. It is very close to the house, about 20 ft away from the house. The cabinets would need to be removed, but it might work well. Anyways, this is the other option. I am sure someone could always move this one as well, although we can see this one from certain parts of the...

    Buying a coop

So this is where they are currently. It’s very big, especially considering there’s just three in there right now. 8 ft by 18 ft. The covered area is 4 ft by 18 ft. We still need to add ventilation and roosting bars but we were working on the run, which we’d need to do over again. What would we...

    Buying a coop

We have 3. We would like 8. The website doesn’t list the dimensions. I called the store and they said 8-10. I’m not sure how much of an over exaggeration that is

    Buying a coop

We are thinking of purchasing a coop but wanted advice from the experts. We formerly talked about converting an existing shed on the property, but it’s out of our line of vision and we didn’t even notice when a fox stopped by and took a few chickens. so we were hoping for opinions from you guys...
