Don't know what breed or gender you have? Click here!

Here are a few more pictures. I got them at the end of last summer from a 14 year old boy who was raising and breeding for a hobby and to make $ for the family (limited English Spanish speaker). He had common breeds I recognized and a few unusual ones that I did not. Some super beautiful ones...

I like the design. Such a beautiful setting.

    Ann's Chicken Duplex & Run

It is hard for me to believe I built this coop 10 years ago. My chicken adventures continue today. The playhouse design was modified to be a duplex a few years ago. A summer shade cloth and misters keep the run bearable. Wheels allow some flexibility to change things up and a good clean out.

    The Big Freeze Coop

What a great coop story. Very touching that it was made with your dad. Such a creative process! I am looking to redo my run. Got a few ideas from this post. Is the bird netting attached to the coop as well as the posts? Thanks!

Any ideas about the breeds (mixes?) of these hens? The golden one lays a light olive egg. The grey one has a little crest and lays a beige egg.

    What breeds are these chickens?

I think they are probably a mixture of breeds. I bought them late last summer when they were less than a year old just because I thought they were pretty. The 14 year old businessman that sold them to me spoke limited English - breeds were not identified. I was delighted when the golden one...

    Chicken Math

I've never heard of a horse being at the bottom of the pecking order. Too funny! California is only a couple of states away. Ha! We are all chicken addicts.

    Chicken Math

Thanks for your affirmation. I agree about the addiction! Although we have 6 hilly acres, we are in an association that only allows the chickens through a 4-H permit. I had no plans for roosters but the little guys are already such characters (and friendly). I may try keeping 1 or 2 until...

    Chicken Math

I have 10 assorted chicks (7 weeks now) that we hatched out from EBAY eggs (6 brabanters, 1 cochin, 2 houdans, 1 blue laced wynadotte). I think 1 houdan and 3 brabanters are roos. Also have 4 hens (2 ameracaunas, 1 seabright, 1 polish) that are 2 years in the spring. I hatched the eggs to...

    Normal Chicken owner behavior??

I've been fighting an urge to go check on the girls/coop in this storm. After reading these posts I feel better. Now where is my headlamp...

How many double yolks have you had?

Out of my six girls my barred rock has given me 3. She just started laying in July. So amazing.

    Hen Getting Picked On

I have the same problem with my 9 month old polish. The others have started pulling out her top feathers. I have heard that menthol ointment on her feathers acts as a deterrent. I worry that if I get another Polish there will be 2 that are picked on. I am considering removing her until she...

    Wrong eggs

My childhood pet cockatiel Cecil surprised me with an egg also. It was Cecilia from that day on.
