Eye Issue - What in the World?

@Shezadandy Thank you! I will check out that store. Always good to have antibiotics on hand. I will finish the 10 days of the erythromycin and see how it looks; if no improvement then I could switch to the Terramycin. THANK you for sharing your personal experience about poking the eye. I tell...

Eye Issue - What in the World?

@Shezadandy, Yes. I was expecting pus, too. It’s still swollen (though liquid-filled is probably a better description) today with no difference from yesterday’s saline flush. I’m super tempted to put a needle in it to see what happens…but worried that if there is an infection that it could make...

Eye Issue - What in the World?

Correct. The eye just started swelling this week. So, I just tried to clean the eye like @Shezadandy recommended. But there was no pus. I did not lance/drain the liquid, but was able to flush it pretty well and put more antibiotic ointment into the eye pocket. Here is a photo that shows it...

Eye Issue - What in the World?

Solid advice. I will try to open & flush it tomorrow. I did get some antibiotic ophthalmic ointment and started it tonight. I’ll apply that 2x/day for 10 days. I checked with her previous owner and she doesn’t have any photos post-injury. It looked like her eyelid half covered her eye and it...

Eye Issue - What in the World?

Hi, I received this hen from a friend about 6 months ago. Her eye has been pecked by her old flock mates, so she came to live with my flock who have accepted her and they all live happily together (no pecking/aggression). She came to us with an injured left eye (right eye is completely normal)...

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

@ca Your pigeons are soooo pretty!! I wonder if they are homing pigeons (I know nothing about them, BTW 😂). Do you let them outside or are they indoor? He’s been keeping pigeons for as long as I remember! He’s won tons of awards and had a bird that won the national homing pigeon award in 2011...

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

I literally just set 44 quail eggs to hatch yesterday…and when it went to our quail aviary just now, look what I found!! 💕💕💕 She’s our first Coturnix Quail born naturally. So maybe by the end of this we’ll have 45 quail. 😂😂 (She’s the “oops” child. I won’t count her in our Easter Hatch-Along...

    Vaccinating older birds

I’m seeking this information as well. I had one hen die of Marek’s and while vaccination in older birds is not as effective and and immunity isn’t guaranteed, it could possibly lower the risk from Marek’s.
