This gives me a little hope on my SS that is 8 weeks today. Has had a comb for quite a while - much sooner than any of my other breeds. She also grew the fastest. Went from my smallest chick to my biggest in a week. And has kept the title of heavy-weight so far.
No other SS to compare to. Comb...
Hi! I haven't been posting much, but I'm still around! Thanks for reaching out!
I am working on raising another batch of chicks. From 6-8 weeks old right now. Outside, but separated from my older flock.
New babies are Buff Orp, Lav Orp, Speckled Sussex, Houdan, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Blue...
I ordered 3 new babies from MyPetChicken, and they shipped from Meyer. All three were alive when I opened the box, and all three looked quite healthy. They took to the waterer easily. And to the brooder plate. My last batch avoided the plate completely.
They are much smaller than the chicks I...
I spent a huge chunk of my day outside in my backyard because it was finally nice out! I am showing this picture in particular, because you can see the Chicken Yard that I am working on. It is the lattice structure in the back right corner.
The Yard holds the TSC modified coop and a wire...
Early March I finally got my hands on some Silkies! These are what I originally wanted from the get go. My feed store finally got them in, after a delay due to storms. Hatched 3/1/22. Just about a week younger than my Polish.
I got 3. Hoping for a splash or blue, a buff, and a partridge.
From...

That being the case, I wanted something that would be quick. I also don't have a lot of building tools, so I decided to get a pre-fab coop from...
I got some picture envy from Instagram. Did a little photo shoot with my 3 day olds.
Bellamy > Marlowe > Lorelai (later changed to Moira) Although they were all unnamed at this point!
Their personalities are coming out. Bellamy is a scaredy-cat. Marlowe is inquisitive and likes to be held...
Hi, this is going to be my spot where I post all the things relating to my chickens, homesteading, gardening. Follow along if you want.
Starting off with my chicks as babies, as this is Backyard Chickens after all!
My first batch of chicks was 3 Polish that I purchased at a local feed store on...
I don't have any experience with the Wyandottes, but I can give an opinion on the Polish and Silkies>
1. Possibly a roo. I don't see any streamer feathers, but it may be early. The crest is swept back, which makes me think roo. The thing that most looks rooey is there seems to be some comb...
