They're 8 weeks now.
Voldemort has started crowing (I'm 90% sure).
Bluey, Chickadee, and Buckbeak look like boys definitely.
I'm not sure about the rest, but I'm really hoping Sasha Nein is a girl.
Any insight? Are these the type that take extra long to figure out since they're bearded and...
I've got 8 week old silkies, and out of the 8 I hatched most are cockerels. I'll be keeping 3-4 of the cockerels. The rest of the cockerels will be available for free.
We're in south central Wisconsin.
I've included a picture of the first cockerel to rehome. He has started crowing already.
I have 8 silkies that are 7-7.5 weeks old. I need help figuring out the sex, but I know it's a little early. I can provide more pictures if that helps. My guess behaviorally is that I have a lot of roosters.
I hatched 8 silkies a month and a half ago. I was hoping some of them would be good to start breeding with. I'm not planning to show them necessarily, but I don't want to breed serious genetic problems. Anyway, 3 of the chicks have weird beaks. One is an obvious cross beak and the other two are...
I looked back through the pictures I have of them at a few days old, and I didn't get very useful pictures. Chickadee appears to have been pretty dark, but might have still had striping as well. Only one chick had very visible markings, but that chick is currently blue.
Chickadee is showing...
The light colored parts are definitely not shaft casings (I double checked today). This chick's egg came from a pen that had a partridge hen, I'm pretty sure. Partridge then? I'm thinking the ground color is not gold with how light the markings are. I've only had blue, black, and splash chicks...
I have some 5 week old silkies I hatched from bought eggs. I'm not totally sure the genetics of the parents. Can anyone tell me what color this one is?
Just thought I'd hop back in here to say that I have long term plans to move to Wisconsin and start my own flock of these guys. I'll definitely be watching all of your beautiful chickens in the meantime.
