I would love some advice! Please help - Listless hen, not eating, drinking, or pooping.

I'm not entirely convinced that she's doing any better. the tips of her comb is blue, and its very floppy. What else should I be doing?

I gave her some more watermelon this morning. She picked at it a bit, but mostly just knocked it out of the bowl. I gave her a piece of bread this afternoon and she had eaten a quarter of it while I was collecting eggs in the coop. Not sure what to do at this point?

Update - no more panting. Brown watery poo this morning. I would really love some input. I've done a lot of research already on Google and here with the search bar. Nothing seems to fit.

Update, she is panting now. I think its because she's dehydrated. My husband has her in a bath again, the other day, she was drinking a little of the bath water. Today, she's not.

Here's what we know: I have a 25 week old Orpington hen. Not sure of her weight, she's the same size or even a bit rounder than some of my other orpies. Mid-morning Saturday, my husband went out to feed & water the chickens she was standing in the coop; he thought that she was waiting for an...

Why do people slaughter 3 months after laying begins?

Exactly! I think this is an excellent reason why doing research is SO important. I absolutely love to get "tips from the trenches" but there's definitely some misconceptions to sift through too.

Why do people slaughter 3 months after laying begins?

No links, sorry. These were conversations I've had with several people around town here when we first began researching chickens. Basically I came upon the info when I asked how they managed their flocks in the wintertime. Several people told me that they took the birds to be slaughtered in...

Why do people slaughter 3 months after laying begins?

Yeah, these are hobby chicken people, not farmers; and the do kill the whole flock. I don't know if they don't think the girls will last through the winter or what. Its definitely a head scratcher for me...

Why do people slaughter 3 months after laying begins?

This is my first year raising chickens, so maybe I'm missing something? From what I've read, when you're raising laying hens from peeps, it takes about 6 months before they start laying. In my area, peeps are only available in the farm stores in March-early April. So the girls don't...

Do the usual methods apply when adding new, same age pullets to my flock?

The "double agent" BR went back in with her sisters today. We have the new girls in the run while the existing girls free range. So glad we're keeping them separated - the existing leghorn and the new BA tried to get up close and personal today!

I'm pretty sure they're not RIRs, I have a RIR already and she's a much darker red. The color looks similar to that of the GSLs... ETA: They also look similar to the New Hampshire
