    Chickens laying down in snow?

Today has been a rough day. I just found out one of my hens had reproductive cancer and had to have her put down. I went home and gave all the rest of the flock some tuna which they devoured and then let them out to free range. I went and did a couple of things and when I came back to my...

    Sick chicken - Messy vent

I have a Rhode Island Red that’s had a messy vent for a month now. I took her to the vet last Saturday and he said she had parasites since she felt thin as well. He suggested medication so I’ve been giving the entire flock corrid in their water. They did a fecal test and it didn’t show any...

Yellow liquid coming out of hens vent

I noticed she was drinking from spots around the yard. It was a mix of clear, some white and yellow. She did poop while she was soaking. Her tail is up but she was just nibbling at things. She usually goes nuts for her treats and she just wasn’t interested in them. She also didn’t run much today...

Yellow liquid coming out of hens vent

I have a chicken that’s acting a little more calmer than normal and when I went to pick to pick her up and check her I noticed that a yellow liquid was coming out of her vent after I checked for a bound egg. I felt around her abdomen and did an internal check and didn’t feel anything. When I...

    Molting Question

I’m pretty sure my chickens have started their first molt. They’re about 18 months and there are a ton of feathers laying in the coop. My one hen has fully finished it and her feathers have all grown back. I’m concerned about my roo because he now only has one tail feather left. Is it normal for...

    Rooster in new coop

I had to separate two roosters as one started to attack the other. I put the one in another coop with all hens and he’s just pacing back and forth in front of the door. I know he’s stressed because it’s a new change, but will he be ok? Will he eventually get used to the new coop? I feel bad that...

    Roosters fighting

I have three roosters and I have had them for over a year. Two were hatched together and the one was introduced before they reached maturity. Yesterday I noticed the one that was introduced and one that was hatched were fighting. They have gotten in squaks before but nothing like this. Now the...

    Hawk Attack Treatment

Oh my gosh I couldn’t imagine that! I still can’t believe I am so attached to chickens but here I am, worrying to death over one. I knew it was a hawk when my Roos were going crazy. Even saw it fly away and watch me as I counted all of them. I can’t believe how hardy they can be. I would never...

    Hawk Attack Treatment

Today I had a chicken get attacked by a hawk. She has two wounds about the size of a quarter which I put antibacterial ointment on and sprayed blukote on as well. I went ahead and wrapped it as well, but since the wound is right near her leg and thigh it was difficult to wrap without making it...

    Bumble foot?

I was just wondering if this looked like bumble foot...I’ve never had a chicken with bumble foot so I’m not sure! It hasn’t gotten any larger and he still can walk and run fine. Just want to make sure I catch it early if it is! If it is bumble foot, how can I treat it? Thanks!

    Feeding a Mixed Flock

I plan on keeping him until he passes. I don’t plan to hatch the eggs either...I have him to keep the girls safe from predators when they are free ranging. And also because I love him so much!

    Feeding a Mixed Flock

I currently have hens and roosters in my flock and am feeding them the Purina layena crumbles. I know the added calcium is awful for the roosters but I have no clue if my hens will know to eat oyster shell if I switch to a feed without the extra calcium. Thoughts? What’s the best feed for both...

    Chick walking on one leg

I think he has straighten them a little bit. Would you recommend use the rubber band method on the legs? When it’s straightened, it doesn’t seem to bother him. Here’s an up close of the legs

    Chick walking on one leg

Hi everyone! This baby chick just hatched on Saturday and is walking around on one leg and keeps it curled up like this. I don’t know if it has curled toes or something else wrong. Any advice on him?

    Hard lump near rooster’s tail

I just noticed this hard lump near my rooster’s tail feather. It’s sort of pointy and is very hard. I’m not sure what it is! He has been acting normal and nothing else seems out of sort.
