    How common are Mottled Houdans?

I plan to try that. They tend to chase the kids more than they come after me. They have not hurt anyone yet. It’s usually only if someone is heading into or near the hen house.

    How common are Mottled Houdans?

We bought ours from Cackle Hatchery in Lebanon, MO this past spring. Love them! Our 2 roosters are becoming a bit aggressive tho.

Looks like a rooster to me. We ended up with 2 roosters out of the 4 we bought.

    Chicken Breed Focus - Houdan

We have 2 Houdan roosters about 6-7 months old that have started to get aggressive. I had read they were a gentle breed and safe for children, so I was surprised. Anyone know how bad they can hurt a person or even a small child? I was just really bummed when they started being buttheads. My 2...

Week of possible bumble foot treatment

Thank you. I did lance it and get out as much stuff as I could. I even had someone with more experience look at her and not get any more pus out but her toe is still extremely swollen on both sides. I am praying it gets better. I am still doing her daily (sometimes twice daily) soaks and...

    Scissor Beak chicken care

Thank you so much! That is super helpful and I already have J & J baby shampoo so that's even better. We use a 16% protein crumble feed mixed with scratch and oyster shell. I will have to try the toothbrush on her dirty little feathers. She looks so sad compared to her sisters impressive crest...

Week of possible bumble foot treatment

We are going on about a week of treating possible bumble foot with Epsom soaks, wound spray and antibiotic ointment. It actually looks slightly more swollen than it did before. I am not sure how long it takes to heal or what more we need to do. The first 2 pics are a week ago and last 2 from...

    Scissor Beak chicken care

Thank you! We do crumble as well because of Snuggles and BB (broken beak) she broke her beak when she was about 6 weeks old. They both tend to eat when other chickens are elsewhere. I will look into the booster for her. I also thought about soft treats for her like natural applesauce or yogurt...

    Scissor Beak chicken care

This is Snuggles and she has scissor beak. She is smaller than her sister and her crest feathers are not as soft and healthy. Is there a supplement or something I can do to help her maintain a healthy weight and healthy feathers? And what is the best thing to use on her for baths? Her feathers...

    Ameracauna hen with injured foot

She liked the floating treats but was not amused by her spa day (Epsom salt soak).

    Ameracauna hen with injured foot

I kind of wondered. Any ideas what we need to do for her? I cleaned her feet and put ointment on it. We kept her inside for a half hour before I carried her back to the coop for the night.

I soaked her feet for a few minutes. Hope these are better. I have her inside with me for now
