Thank you. We do have quite a bit of enrichment in the coop and run but maybe there needs to be more. It’s possible they are bored - we’re in Alberta, Canada and we only get about 8 hours of daylight right now so they’re in the coop a lot of the time right now.
Please be kind, I am trying so hard.
I can’t seem to catch a break and am feeling like an absolute failure of a chicken keeper right now. We have had our only rooster in our house for over five weeks now due to frostbite on his feet, a horrible molt, and being picked on by his hens while he...
Thank you for this! He is inside now recovering and already appears to look better. We do have 2x4 roost bars for that exact reason but he still seems to be struggling.
Here is hoping for the best outcome!
Thank you for your response - that is what we initially thought too, and tried the Vaseline but no improvements as of yet :/ and I’m not sure why the girls are picking on him so horribly
*slightly graphic photos - the one where he looks amazing is how he looked about 2 weeks ago*
My heart is breaking for my poor cockerel, Odin. 9 months old. He has developed scabby, swollen, sore feet and toes and the hens have started ripping his feathers out nonstop. He’s normally a...
Hi guys - does this look like scaly leg mites? I posted in another group but I’d like a second opinion.
I am having some trouble with my sweet Roo, Odin...he is 9 months old and going through what I think is his first molt (we’ve been having a very weird winter here in Alberta 🇨🇦) and today I...
Updated photos after an epsom salt soak
I also noticed she has them on both feet in the exact same spots! One is a little worse than the other, though. Super weird!
Hi all,
First off - apologies for the dirty chicken feet, it’s been so mucky here that it’s been impossible to keep up on but I’m just about to go give her a foot bath.
One of my BCM hens (Feathered feet) has a scabby thing on her foot - it almost looks like a callus, but dirt is caked around...
Mixed flock just shy of 22 weeks old. About 6/12 have these little black scabs on their combs and my one Roo has them on his wattles, too. Should I be concerned about fowl pox? It doesn’t look like the photos I see of pox but I’m not sure what else it could be.
Everyone seems totally healthy...
Mine were doing the same thing, so we would go in there with a flashlight once it was dark and stick them on the roosts instead. Typically, when it’s pitch dark, they won’t move once they’re placed there. It took several nights of this but they did eventually figure it out! Good luck!
Mixed flock of 20 week old hens..we got our first intact egg today! It was laid by one of my Marans, I watched it happen (magical!)
We had an egg a day for the last three days, too, but they were all laid overnight from the roost so they were broken on the coop floor in the morning. I don’t...
I came here because I have a 19 week old black Copper Marans hen doing the exact same thing. I’m not sure if she’s laying yet or not. Did you ever figure out what this was? Did it sort itself out?
