If you want them all to run together one day you'll definitely need more hens. I find 8-10 hens a rooster is good. Breed also matters some are just more aggressive than others.
Yes, they have an acre fenced in and two coops. Lots of space is key to avoid fighting. Everyone does their own thing during the day and they have two coops to pick from for night time.
My duck just hatched a chicken egg. She lost all her eggs. I had hens setting and one egg was about 5 days behind the others guess someone laid one later so they pretty much left it. So I put it under my duck and took her rotten egg. So far that's her babies.
So I got 4 leghorns for high egg production. The other plus was they are very unlikely to go broody from everything I've read. Well out of my mixed flock my only broody ones are my leghorns 😂🤦🏻♀️ 2 of the 4. Mrs Pea was the 1st to hatch 4 babies so far. She's so proud of herself ❤️
They are all very cute. Often times when cockerels first start crowing they sounds ridiculous. I personally love the first crows because they put so much effort into it and sound so funny. Takes about 2 to 3 weeks before they start to sound like your classic rooster crow from my experience.
