St. Patrick’s Day Hatch-a-long (Almost)

4 pips as of this morning. No zipping yet.

Here’s a photo of the parent flock:

Three hatched so far, with 6 more currently pipped.

Two out of my Wheaten Olive Egger. She lays dark brown, lightly speckled eggs and has a small crest. Interestingly, they both have light down, even though I’d have expected the wild-type of their Speckled Sussex sire to be dominant over wheaten.

This one hatched from a green egg, so its mother is one of my barnyard mix Easter Eggers. It looks to have both a pea comb and a beard! I sure hope it also ends up being speckled/mottled and female.

Final count is 13 successfully hatched. It looks like two were malpositioned and got stuck trying to hatch overnight.

Overall, I’m pleased with the hatch rate. All the chicks that hatched are vigorous, and most of them have already found their food.

Super Cute ❤️ Congrats on a successful hatch.
Mine went into lockdown yesterday scheduled to hatch Tuesday. Praying they hatch without issues.
