I would think it would be a bit longer before you start to see eggs. Three month olds are fairly young still. To answer your question though I've always switched mine to layer around 18 weeks of age. My chickens however free range daily and eat all the table scraps I can throw at them.
I've seen references (by searching) to fowl pox or chicken pox. The pictures I've seen here don't really resemble it but I could be incorrect. My roo is the only one with it.
Any idea what this is? I guess they are scabs because I noticed some blood on their feeder where his comb would have...
My chickens free-range from dawn to dusk daily as well and we have no issues with their eggs. Do the chickens have access to laying feed also? They may not be getting the nutrients they need if you're solely relying on free-ranging for them to eat.
I'm using 1/2" pipe and the peckers I purchased from Kullas. I had to seal them with pipe dope else they wanted to leak around their outside edges. No biggie - It was an easy fix.
I built an enclosure for my chickens under a large metal 'barn'. Two walls are wire fencing. The other two and the roof are sheet metal. Once they are feathered out they should be fine. Mine get along fine without a heat source as well. Most important I think is to design it so that they are...

Dealing with different sized birds is something I hadn't thought about so yeah that makes perfect sense there. I'll have a ball valve coming off my bucket that I can shut off for when I might need to disconnect the line from the bucket. I don't know if that'll ever come in handy but...
I don't foresee having an issue then since my PVC line won't be coming directly off of the bucket and the bucket will be a couple feet higher than the PVC line. If you place one of the peckers just about at the end it should give you an easy way to bleed off any air that would be trapped. Do...
I'm going to be using gravity feed for mine however I will have a flexible hose between my bucket and the PVC line containing the peckers. I figured I would do it this way so that I can elevate the bucket that much more while keeping the peckers at the right height.
With this setup do you...
Low pressure & gravity feed systems only. You could always rig up a float valve to keep your reservoir full if you're trying to avoid having something to monitor and fill up. That's what I'll eventually do with mine.
I'm thinking a flexible length of tubing attached between the bucket and the PVC line with the drinkers would give more flexibility over placement and bucket height.
