I got them some poultry grower from the store that says it is for ducks and chickens. I have another question too, is it legal for me to own these? The guy I got them from couldn't keep them anymore so he just gave them to me, and I'm not sure if he had any permits. If it's not legal, there is a...
I just got 2 pairs of wood ducks that are around 3-4 months old and need to know what to feed them. I got them last night and it wasn't planned at all, so I just gave them some water and lettuce last night, but I know that they need some real food soon. I have several different types of chicken...
I have 5 chicks from by big hens, 3 hens and 2 roosters, and they are right at 5 weeks old and I was wondering when I should put them with my big chickens? Right now I have them in a small metal watering trough made for large livestock ,and they are almost too big for it. If it is too early to...
I'll go check to see if there is a weight difference. I had one more hatch yesterday before I posted this, so I'm hoping that atleast one more will hatch so that I can have a total of 7.
My hen has been laying on some eggs for about a total of 4 1/2 weeks. By the time I was able to mark the eggs she was laying on, some of them were almost a week old and some had been layed that day, so my hatch has been happening slowly over about a week. So far, 6 have hatched, a couple were...
Ok, so 4 chicks have succesfully hatched. They were sitting on 15 eggs total, so 11 are left. Some are younger eggs than others because it took me about three days to realize she was brooding and that I needed to mark them, so I think it might be a slow hatch over the next few days. So far all...
I think there might actually be two broody hens, because the past few days they have been sharing the nest laying on the eggs. There is a blue cochin and barred rock sitting on them, and the first two weeks it was just the blue cochin, and that was the one attacking the chick. The little chick...
A few more questions. The only chick feed I have right now is grower/finisher, and it says it is good for 10-18 week old chicks, but will it be ok for my baby chicks? Also, I haven't found my heat lamp yet, will the chick be ok for another hour or two until I can find the lamp?
My hen went broody a few weeks ago, and about 30 minutes ago the first chick hatched. I think I asked just about every question except what to do when the chicks are born, so thats what I am asking. The mamma hen started pecking the little chick very aggresively and it looked like she was going...
Ok, one last question (I think). How long will it take for her eggs to hatch if they are fertile? And are there any ways for me to tell if they are fertile or not? And do I need to do anything to the chicks if they do hatch? Thanks.
So if I let her keep sitting on the egg/eggs, will she hatch some chicks? I've been looking to get a few more chickens, and honestly wouldn't mind her hatching some chicks. For the mites/lice, what should be done about those? Sorry for all the questions, I'm new to the chicken thing.
Also, what would cause my hens to have bald spots at the base of their tails? All three of my hens are missing a patch of feathers at the base of their tails, and I believe it is the result of pecking at each other, but I'm not positive.
I have 4 chickens, 2 barred rock hens and a barred rock rooster, and a blue cochin hen. The BC hen is i guess what you would say at the bottom of the pecking order because she is normally last to eat, or get treats, etc. Last night my grandma went up to get the eggs after dark, and she thought...
