All chicks will be spit lavender and wheaten, the black copper Marans will also bring in leakage. Bred back to the father you will get more splits, lavender and wheaten lavender (isabel) offspring
I’m as bad with cats as I am chickens.
I may have just added another kitten that I need to get a photo of 😅
Some facts. Lily the blue (grey) was a feral kitten that ended up in my backyard about 8 years ago. Smokey and Bandit the solid tabby and solid black were kittens born to a feral mum on a...
Sorry not Monday here, but I want to join in plus I did take these photos of my mother’s cats on Monday if that counts. Teddy, Dobby and Sebastian
I’ll post some of my many cats/kittens next on Monday
In my experience I didn't as my whites were 'pure' for extended black which resulted in just white in the first generation, but if any of your hens are split for extended black then it's possible for pyle to appear in the F1 offspring
The first time you breed your leghorns don't be surprised to only get white chickens with some black flecks, but if you breed those daughters back to the father (or siblings/aunts/uncles/grandparents etc) you will get your wonderful variety as white leghorn often also mask barring and blue.
I agree definitely some Silkie in there with the crests and 5 toes.
The older one has a awful lot of red in the face but feather wise they both are looking pullet.
What colour is the rooster? if I were to guess I would say the older is more likely part light Sussex, unless the rooster is also...
Definitely not pure Silkies as they lack silkied feathers. The breeder is most likely grouping mix breeds aka "Satins" with their Silkies, it's pretty common but should be diclosed.
As Like Turkeys said, sexing will be a lot easier but you will need to wait for their next set of feathers to...
Opossum absolutely will take a chicken, I have seen videos of attacks. anyone who says they wont have just been lucky that it hasn't happened to them or if they have lost chickens to them blame something else. It most likely targeted Treble since his leg was deformed so was the weakest of the bunch.
24 and 24. Pure Pekin bantams (aka Bantam Cochins) plus my Pekin over Polish, Japanese bantam and Australian Araucana. Oh I also have a couple of Pekin/ISA brown due around the same time under a broody hen
usually when I get swooped it's because one of the breeding birds is new (previous mate died) or a new pair has taken over the territory, which means having to build trust all over again which for some can take a few seasons.
it turned out there are not genetically pure wheatens. the marked chicks ended up being a buff pullet and wheaten cockerel. the clean chicks a wheaten cockerel and a buff cockerel
I purchased a dozen wheaten Marans eggs and had 4 hatch. Two are solid yellow as expected but two have a stripe on their head. The Marans club of Australia where I’m located says “the down of wheaten is essentially clear cream in colour, although small dorsal head spots are common”
but these...
Platinum my splash copper Marans. She went broody for the first time at 4 1/2 years old, hatched out 11 chicks and accepted another 3 at the same time then another a week later
