Finally Started the build (getting pic heavy)

The last couple weeks have been slow going, Had a few delays, and just plain ol' life getting in the way. Not that I minded a little break. As far as the delays, I had a decent mind fart as I tend to do now and then. Once the thing is all framed, paneled trimmed and painted....THAT is the...

Finally Started the build (getting pic heavy)

Well, some of the supplies are leftovers from other projects and just things I have on hand. Like screws, caulk, some of the lumber, electrical supplies etc. The windows were a roadside "free" find. I do however at this point have near $600 into it. The roofing, siding, hardware cloth, paint...

Finally Started the build (getting pic heavy)

Between Birthday parties, Walks in the woods with my wife, and 3 crazy dogs wanting to play we found a little time to work some on the coop this past weekend. We now have the interior totally insulated and lined with interior panels. The front side is trimmed out and windows installed. I started...

To insulate or not is kind of hard to just say yes or no. Our coop while under a large cottonwood tree for shade does not have much in the way of a wind break. We are surrounded by flat fields. Wind can REALLY pick up out here and in the winter it can get blistering cold. I decided to insulate...

Finally Started the build (getting pic heavy)

I have 16 chicks at the moment. Some will not be staying, so with this round we will be keeping 11 total. The coop has a 6'x8' footprint and is just about 7 foot inside. Winter was a concern for me as well, so the walls will be insulated with R 30 insulation. Would you be insulating at all? 5'...

    Help? Detachable Pannels

What I am using and have recommended before is common door hinges (see the pic). They can mount using screws just like your latches but allow for a pivot of a wall and can be used on making corners as well. To "un"hook them you simply remove the hinge pin.

    Black laced Salmon Faverolles hen

I have two Salmon Faverolles hens that the tail end has the common cream and Salmon coloring but as you got up the body to the head, it seems a black coloring gene has become dominant. There is heavy black lacing around the hackles and cape, and a dark head. Personally have not seen this before...

Here is a shot of the feeder I made for the coop.

Finally Started the build (getting pic heavy)

Well, as per usual, I did not get as much time to work on the coop as I would have liked. Something about having to work to pay the bills (grumble, grumble). However, with the wifeys help we made a good amount of progress in a short couple days. Since I last posted I had finished the roof...

Thank you...I will take that as a compliment!! ;) Yea, it is turning out to be a little bit of chickie Fort Knox, but I 'intend' on keeping this one around for a while. Potentially using it to build off of when we need a larger house.

Oh, also above the rear windows I am framing in 2 fan racks. I am re-purposing them from an old job I had. They are cooling fans used on equipment that gets very warm, but they are super quiet. For all the geeks here who understand the lingo, each rack contains three 120mm fans each that move...

Finally Started the build (getting pic heavy)

This last week has been so hot, temps getting 104-106. made it difficult to put too much time in on the coop. Especially as my everyday job has me outside upwards of 8-10 hours. Coming home to work on the coop in the heat was not the first thing on my mind. Anyway, ran into a few snags in...
