So I finally got this thing under way. I am not really using plans, just kinda playing it by ear on a design in my head. I will start off with pics and add more info as I get things rolling with the rest of the build. The birds are getting anxious to spend time outside so I will be trying to wrap this up in as quick of a time as possible. For nor the basics, it will be a 6'X8' footprint on the house. I was planning for and 8X8, but we are potentially moving soon and taking the coop with us. The narrower 6 foot side will allow me to trailer this thing easier. hence the fact it is currently using deck blocks to hold it.
I have 16 Chicks currently, 13 Faverolles (5 hens and 8 Roo's) and 3 Buff Brahma hens. Here in a couple months that number will drop a little as some of the Roo's are going to be named Dinner.

First the floor framing

Add in a little Predator protection

7/8" Panels for the floor

Skipping ahead some, walls are up

And Trusses are almost all set

at this point it was 104 degrees outside and I called it quits for now. more to come as I make progress.

Thanks for looking!

But now that you're here, go ahead and search through the billions of photos, images and videos on Photobucket.

Bummer.

There was a minor setback in design this weekend, guess that happens when you build based off plans you are making up in your head as you go! Found the solution and moving forward. Should have the roof on by the 4th. From there it'll be pretty much an easy ride. here are a few more of the framing pics up to date and a few of the chicks that are anxiously awaiting a place to call home.

Shot of the Truss bracing

Previous build wouldn't allow for soffit idea and front ginger breading, so I modified the overhang and built a ladder truss for support.

And here's the chicks

Buff Brahma...and very curious (read: OCD) Aussie Shepherd "Sydney"

More to come soon!!!

This last week has been so hot, temps getting 104-106. made it difficult to put too much time in on the coop. Especially as my everyday job has me outside upwards of 8-10 hours. Coming home to work on the coop in the heat was not the first thing on my mind. Anyway, ran into a few snags in building and design and had to re-engineer on the fly. Some of the boards have a pretty good twist to them and straightening as much as I could I now have the entire framing in, and the soffits are done. The 7/16" OSB roofing sheets are going on. This week I hope to tackle the felt paper and start shingling this thing. Once that is in I will start skinning it with T1-11 panels. Should be pretty downhill from here *knock on wood* :)

The plan currently is to have a door on the front and 2 windows, and another 2 windows on the rear. I have framing in place to add a window on either side in the future if wanted or needed. Also there is a pop door location both on the right side and on the back wall. I will be using the one on the right wall, but again framed in another if needed later. (we may be moving in the near future and I wanted to leave options open for placement of the coop in the future.

When this thing is done there will be flower planter boxes under the front windows, ginger breading up the eaves to the peak. I am a bit of a traditionalist so it will be doused in Barn red paint with white trim, and a green roof. Now it's just getting to that point. Thankful for the break in the heat so maybe I can get this rolling.

A view of the Front.

From the rear

Oh, also above the rear windows I am framing in 2 fan racks. I am re-purposing them from an old job I had. They are cooling fans used on equipment that gets very warm, but they are super quiet. For all the geeks here who understand the lingo, each rack contains three 120mm fans each that move 150 cfm at 27dB. That should help quite a bit on hot days as well as promoting more than adequate ventilation.

This will be some substantial coop! You build like my husband - you obviously take pride in your work. And your chicks and pup are gorgeous!!! I love the roo that looks like an eagle with his colors. My husband just broke ground on our new and final (LOL) coop. I can't wait to see your finished product!

Final Coop...that is funny.

I'm enjoying this build as well...it looks very impressive.
