Personally i have a larger lip and use wood shavings, the hens make their nests in them and dont kick it out. If you cant get a lip have you tried nesting pads? Im looking at getting some of the high quality reusable ones at the moment for the chicken tractor im building.
These roosters started to crow at 11 weeks. They are in with 6 hens (4 roosters) the group was raised together. I am going to eat my two excess roosters. They kind of fight but it doesnt seem to be as unfriendly as the fights that i have seen in the past. More like they raise the feathers on the...
Hey everyone. These are cockerals 13 weeks as I said. I want them to have a pretty decent carcass weight just for roasting. Not to concerned about much else. They are in a chicken tractor. I want a slightly lighter flavour (not a strong testosterone flavour) and a nice tenderness.
yeah ive heard that every breed is different and every bird in the breed is different. i did believe that RIR 2 ('she' is called pumpkin) was a girl. thanks for your help. what breeds do you have/raise?

They are...
no im aware. my 13 week old Australorps started to crow at 11 weeks. What i mean by behaviour is social dominance, pecking at others and raising their neck in a way that my Australorp roosters did. I kept track of the roosters in that group by elastic bands and all of them became roosters.
thanks. this is very suprising to me but thanks. i will update next week to see if there is any changes. only leghorn 1.1 is showing active rooster hehaviour though?
Hey guys, Im looking for help sexing two 6 week old white leghorn chicks. I have no experience with white leghorns, and they both look very similar in terms of their combs and wattles, however one of them is showing skittish/rooster behavior (which i know is very common in leghorns as they can...
