Hen pushing her guts out! Help!

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! That's a lot! It's crazy that that much was inside the poor thing.... Thanks for posting the pictures though, it looks exactly like the lumpy thingy that I found. It would be interesting to see if she passes anything else.

Hen pushing her guts out! Help!

Thank you for the links, they were very informative. I was curious and cut open the fleshy ball, the texture and smell was almost that of chicken meat. It came apart in 'layers' like a bunch of meat and tissue scraps were pressed together. I'll pick her up this evening and check her out just to...

Hen pushing her guts out! Help!

All healed up! I put her back in the coop on Saturday night and kept a close eye on her. She is back to normal! But....this morning I found this in the nesting box Weird right? I'm assuming it is from that hen, maybe it was what she was trying to push out? I'm clueless!

Hen pushing her guts out! Help!

She's eating and drinking good, I checked on her this morning and things are getting better. No egg but her bulge is smaller, I'm gearing up to give her another bath and some PrepH.

Hen pushing her guts out! Help!

I gloved up for the second time to see if I could feel an egg, believe it or not I couldn't feel anything. That makes no sense there should be an egg, I felt no lumps though! Chickens aren't that big so it would be obvious if the egg is stuck right? Maybe the egg has a soft shell? I found some...

Hen pushing her guts out! Help!

Thank you so much for the link, sorry to make you repeat yourself! The warm water really helped her to relax (she actually went to sleep) all was going well until step seven, after I put everything back in place she just pushed it out again! Now all the little blood vessels in her vent are...

Hen pushing her guts out! Help!

Will do! I have 600mg calcium pill with vitamin D should I give her half or whole?

Hen pushing her guts out! Help!

I've read one other thread about a prolapsed vent but it is an old one. Every time I push her....whatever is hanging out of her (intestine?), back inside she starts pushing until it's hanging out again! Even when it's out she is still pushing, she tried to poop but very little came out, I don't...

Fire in my coop! Plus a toe-less hen!

Thank you mother hen, we have learned our lesson the hard way! I wish I would have known to spritz them with water sooner, it would have eased their discomfort. After I read your post I went to the coop and watched the chickens, they all seemed happy and didn't bother "No-Toe" hen. I will keep...

Fire in my coop! Plus a toe-less hen!

They seem alright, today the weather was warm enough to let them outside. They ran around and pecked things as usual! The very first year that I had chickens one of the hens' toe nails broke off and we put tree tar on it. But then our flock was small and the chickens weren't rabidly...

Fire in my coop! Plus a toe-less hen!

Her the has finally stopped bleeding and she has perked up enormously! She is enjoying her vacation very much! Maybe a little too much.... I think that I am going to keep her inside until this evening to see if she lays an eggs and then put her back into the coop.

Fire in my coop! Plus a toe-less hen!

Yesterday the heat lamps electrical cord in my coop got knocked off the hook that was suspending the lamp and burnt a hole straight through the floor! There wasn't an actual fire but if I hadn't discovered it at that time there may have been. All of my poor hens were coughing and wheezing from...
