    discolored patch on hen's comb

phew that's a relief! okay I wasn't sure because normally pecks to her comb will show up as darker/blackish dried up blood spots but this one looks different

    discolored patch on hen's comb

my lavender orp has developed this discolored brownish patch on her comb. I just noticed it today. her behaviors seem completely normal as far as I've noticed... can anyone help me identify this? is it fowl pox? what should I do? (she's about 2 years old and is definitely low in the pecking...

    Hen Bullying and Feather Plucking

I went ahead and built a separate area for Violet. They can still somewhat interact through the fence, but at least they can't get at her now. I'll keep her in there at least until her feathers grow back and see how it goes. If I need to buy a separate little coop and keep her in there forever...

    Hen Bullying and Feather Plucking

Good to know. I got these girls mostly as pets so I'm not really considering getting rid of any of them. But for argument's sake, let's say I did decide to get rid of somebody. Both Violet and Pumpkin get their feathers plucked, although Violet's situation is worse because she's getting teamed...

    Hen Bullying and Feather Plucking

Thanks! Good to know. Yeah it might be tricky to modify. I'd hate to buy a whole other coop only to find out they don't use it though. I may just have to save up for a new, bigger coop. :/

    Hen Bullying and Feather Plucking

Update: I've added a lot more clutter to the run and I think it's coming along nicely. Also added another feeder and waterer on opposite ends of the run as well as a larger dirt/dust bath area. Unfortunately they still pluck Violet's butt feathers every time they start sprouting back so her...

    Hen Bullying and Feather Plucking

This is what I had on hand, but I'll keep my eye out for more stuff and add to my clutter collection. I think my in laws will have some good stuff for me.

    Hen Bullying and Feather Plucking

Oh that's a neat idea! We actually have a good spot for that, but we don't own this place so I'm not sure how doable that would be. It's something to think about though.

    Hen Bullying and Feather Plucking

Well that's a bummer, but I guess I'm not too surprised. We are located in Iowa so our winters can be pretty harsh, unfortunately. I'll have to maybe plan on modifying the coop or something. At least it will be warming up soon and they can sleep out in the run again, that will give us some time...

    Hen Bullying and Feather Plucking

Sorry for the late reply, everyone! The run is located underneath a second story deck and is about 14' x 18' 5". Our coop is a really small cheap one I got from Amazon and is only about 3' 5" x 2' 2" (not including the nesting box, which is about 2' x 1'). So according to @3KillerBs...

    Hen Bullying and Feather Plucking

Thank you so much!! I'm pretty new to having chickens and I've never heard of these. Just placed an order for some and cannot wait to see how things go. ❤️

    Hen Bullying and Feather Plucking

Just want to start off saying that there's a lot going on here and I don't feel particularly articulate today, so hopefully it all makes sense. Let me know if any clarification is needed. We have 3 hens total (2 Orps and 1 Cinnamon Queen) and unfortunately the Buff and the Queen bully the...
