    loosing Feathers

I have a 1 1/2 year old hen who is loosing feathers on her head and now her neck. This has been going on all summer. I don't feel that it is molting. Some of my other hens are molting and it doesn't look the same. Her skin is not broken but in places looks red. She is still bright eyed and...

    medication

When a hen is taken off of medication, how long does it take for the medication to get out of her system? Although the medication supposedly is safe to eat, I would prefer not to eat chemicals. How long should I wait until I resume eating eggs?

    Loosing Feathers

I have a healthy hen who is loosing feathers on her belly and tonight I observed that even her chest has a bald spot! This has been going on for quite a while - months! Her skin is not broken but it does look somewhat red and irritated. I have tried to put some natural salve onto the area. She...

hen with no feathers on her stomach

One of my hens has a sore on her stomach. No feathers are growing there. It looks red and sore like a burn. She is active an otherwise healthy. I was considering putting some antibiotic cream on it but then I worry what will happen if she eats some of it? Anyone out there with helpful advice?

    baby chicks

I bought 10 baby chicks, they are about 10 days old. All seem well accept for one chick. I think that it has a neurological problem. When it gets stressed if falls down onto it's side and can't get up like a little seizure. After a minute or two it gets back up and walks around, balance seems...

    blister on her tummy

One of my hens has a red sore on her tummy. It isn't bleeding and she is active during the day but it looks painful. Maybe it is from the roost rubbing her tummy. Does anyone have any thoughts as to how I can help this heal up? No feathers are growing there to give her protection. Poor baby!

    Hatching Question.......

My eggs are due to hatch today. I heard a little cheeping today at around 2:00 p.m. so I thought that they were hatching. I left the broody hen alone, she is a really good setter. I did check a couple more times late afternoon and early evening. No more cheeping. Before bed I snuck a quick peep...

looking for a GOOD welsummer breeder in canada

I have been looking on line for Wellsummer bantams and I have had no luck. I have found several hatcheries that sell Wellsummers in standard sizes. One that looked interesting to me was Darkeggs.com. They only sell chickens that lay dark eggs and they had some cool breeds, however they don't...

Cold chickens.....when to use heat lamp?

Hi, I am a new chicken owner since May. I live in Wisconsin, Zone 4 so it will be pretty chilly this winter! I have purchased one of those warmers that the metal waterer can sit on. It has a thermostat so I think that it kicks on at 34 degrees or so. I have not needed to plug it in yet. I am...

    Hello, new member

Hi I am a new member. In May I got 6 bantam pullets, various breeds. After quarantine, I just added three more pullets, they are establishing the new pecking order and so far, so good. I have a few questions: My chickens just started molting, one in particular has lost a lot of feathers. Since...

    Waterers

Fire hazard? I have purchased a plug in base for a galvanized waterer. I have not plugged it in yet because it is not quite cold enough to need it yet but I will need it soon. I am nervous about fire hazard. With all of the wood chips and feathers from my molting chickens could this base start...
