    Prolapsed Duck Vent:( Need Guidance

That’s a good idea to put a crate in the coop so that she’s with the flock, but I was reading that keeping her in a dark place will help deter from laying. Is that really important as everyone says it is?

    Prolapsed Duck Vent:( Need Guidance

Thank you Duckworth! I have separated her from my 3 other ducks and placed her in my garage in a small dog cloth playpen with a blanket over it to make it really dark. I also placed a big jug of water with a calcium supplement dissolved in it. I didn’t put any food in there though. I’ll be...

    Prolapsed Duck Vent:( Need Guidance

Hey everyone, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything on this forum but I’m glad to be back and I need a little guidance. My 1.5 y/o Rouen hen has a prolapsed vent. Most of the posts I’ve seen are for severe cases but Nubbins (my hen) has protrusion that’s about the size of a grape and is...

Now the duck that’s standing on the edge of the bath must be a rare breed it almost looks like a chicken:lau

    Electric fence

You’re absolutely right AC current is no joke and it’s not the voltage that gets you it’s the amps (for a human .1-.2 amps is considered lethal). Usually it’s the combo of low voltage and amps in that range that cause clamping of the heart. I’m not an electrician but I’ve been familiar with...

    Electric fence

I believe you’re right. My wife read something online that said if you shoot them in the lungs they won’t spray but I know for a fact that even if you get a skunk a dirty look it will spray.

    Electric fence

We’re on the same page. Definitely going to run a wire on the bottom for the digging critters. I had a large skunk dig under the corner of my fence but was unsure if it killed anything. Needless to say I caught it in one of my live traps and had dispatch it with my .223 (I guess placing a round...

    Electric fence

I’m thinking of running the extension cord from my house but on the outdoor circuit. I don’t see a problem with it unless you think that would be a bad choice?..

To be completely honest...that statement about the raccoon that was fried on your fence turned me on to your system.

I also checked our county’s rules and regulations on electric fencing and it’s very similar to yours. A breaker is required. Are you running the extension cord off a circuit from your house or did you purchase a 15 amp breaker and connected it to your electric fence?

    Electric fence

I’ve read tons of post where the predator goes right through the fence even after being shocked. I’m not willing to take that risk and definitely not willing to spend tons $$$ for something rated for larger animals. A large (20-25lbs) male raccoon killed one of my girls and severely wounded...

The pictures look great! In of those pictures it looks like you have an electric fence charger under your setup. Was that part of your old setup?

    Electric fence

Keeping it simple. That’s the only way to do! Thank you so much for all your advice. I plan to wire the fence this weekend and believe you me I will definitely post some pictures! I also checked out you video of your setup and your happy ducks playing away in your pond. I must be honest I was...

    Duck bedding

I have heard rumors that rice hull combinated with other litter such as pine shavings or straw can be the best bedding. I have also heard ground up corn cob combined with pine shavings can be really good. I’m in Northern Arizona (it’s usually warm to hot) so I stay true to my pine shaving but I...
