Thank you for the reply!
When you say to give Safeguard at 0.23ml/lb of bird weight, is that for either a paste or liquid dewormer?
I have this paste dewormer:

I also found this liquid...
Thank you for attaching the pictures, it’s very helpful.
You had said I only need to feed them the dewormer once, which is great to know. I had 2 follow up questions:
1) Is deworming something that must be done regularly (and if so, how does one know when to do it)?
2) Is there anything...
Thank you for the reply; the waterer is thrown away. I will deworm them; is it a pill medication or something that is applied to the back of their neck?
Do you know what generally causes this type of worm (is it a roundworm?) so I can avoid it happening again?
Thank you, I appreciate the reply! I was so shocked to see the worms, thank you for pointing them out as roundworms.
I have never dewormed before; I am hoping the same worms are not inside the chickens. I will look into getting deworming medication.
Yes, I think that’s what I’ll be using the homemade feed for going forward. Well their food bill just dropped dramatically, the homemade food wasn’t cheap!
I swapped out an old dish waterer for a nipple setup for my chickens about a week ago. They are 5 month old Black Australorpes and are just starting to lay.
After taking the old waterer dish away, I left it in the sun and did not clean it for about a week (lazy, I know!) as I planned to throw...
Thank you both for the replies, they are much appreciated and helpful. I will up the pellet/crumble feed significantly.
Are there any suggestions for homemade feeds that would avoid the problems I am encountering above? (With the chickens picking out their favorite bits only). It seems like...
In a similar light to many of the other responses, nipple waterers are the easiest waterers to keep clean. They also waste the least water. I use the horizontal nipples.
I feed my black australorps a combination of Purina layer feed and homemade feed. They also have free choice crushed oyster shells and grit.
The homemade feed consists of corn, wheat, sunflower, millet, oats, kelp, meal, and a half dozen additional types of small seeds along with a few other...
I also would recommend this suggestion. I use a 5 gallon bucket with 4 of the same exact horizontal nipples from Amazon and it works perfectly. You want ideally at least one nipple for ever 3-4 birds. Really quick and easy project and much better than most premade wateters.
A 5 gallon bucket...
Thank you very much for your advice; she has laid her first tiny egg! (Took about 24 hours) The humidity and repeated water baths seems to have helped. Hopefully going forward she doesn’t have any more problems with future eggs :)
Thank you so much for the reply, I appreciate it. They all have unlimited access to crushed oyster shell for calcium but don’t touch it much. She’s normal weight.
I will get her to a humid place, give the tums, and try to feel for the egg and will update the thread with how things go. Thank...
I suspect one of my hens is egg bound and am unsure what to do to help. It’s her first egg.
She has been trying to lay the first egg for 8 hours, making the egg laying sound and looks very lethargic in the coop lying in the box. Has not gone to the bathroom. Looks low energy, and does not eat...
