    Mother hen killing her babies

Thank you for your reply. Yup, I have the baby that was attacked in the brooder. But the eggs that she stomped on were in mid hatch process, and now they are bloody and some aren't breathing. So maybe I'll get an incubator...?

    Mother hen killing her babies

Hi - My hen has been a great broody and hatched out a few eggs a couple days ago. Yesterday I walked out to the coop and found one of the newly hatched chicks bloody with it's neck disconnected from its body. My first thought was that the rooster had done it, so today I separated the rooster so...

two hens sleeping in one nesting box...?

Hi There! I have four chickens in this one coop in my yard (one rooster three hens). Just recently my 13 month old Welsummer decided to go broody, she's been siting on fertile eggs for about 15 days now. This evening when I went to close up the chickens my two wellies were both in the same...

Broody Welsummer, not eating or drinking!

She was probably off her eggs for 10-20 minuets, but it was 93 degrees out side, so hopefully that was enough to keep the eggs warm. She seems fine now, I guess she just need time to adjust to her new environment!

Broody Welsummer, not eating or drinking!

I just moved her into a new coop. She isn't sitting on her eggs, did I break the broody?

Thanks for the reply! Should I do anything different or special for her now that she is broody?

Broody Welsummer, not eating or drinking!

I believe my bantam Welsummer hen has gone broody. I'm not 100% sure because I understand that it's rare for this breed to go broody. But she is just sitting in her nesting box, on top of two eggs and a golf ball, she is sleeping in the nesting box, and will not get up to eat or drink! What...

Help baby guineas droping like flies!

aw, I'm so sorry about your losses. I am new to chickens, and have never raised guineas so I can only take a few guesses of why you are losing all these guineas to what appears to be the same problem. Lets see...If they are under a heat lamp, is it possible that they are to hot? Is the lamp to...

Is this sound a Welsummer 'thing'?

Hi there! Congratulations on getting Welsummer (great choice), I have 4 wellies and I LOVE them! They do lay fairly well, and all of them have such sweet personalities. :) I've raised mine from chicks and they do make a lot of interesting sounds. When sexing, you first look at their eyes if the...

My Rooster is having to much fun with my hens.(If you know what I mean?..)

I had this same problem, My advice, get the rooster out of there. Are your hens feathers gone on their head and back?? If so, it is probably because he is breeding them WAY to often. At the moment your hens are probably stressed out and living in fear, if you get rid of the rooster their egg...

    Chicken Sitting?

Thanks for your replies! 4 of my neighbors have chickens, and they are not interested in watching mine. My dog sitter does not know a thing about chickens. I do have 3 roosters that are a handful, I don't trust them with young/Pre teen children. I think I will go to my local feed store, and see...

    Chicken Sitting?

Hi there! I'm new to chickens, and I'm going on vacation for 8 days and was wondering what you do with your chickens when on vacation? I'm assuming you must need a "chicken sitter," someone to let them out in the morning, put them in at dusk, check the feed and water. But where do you find a...
