As long as she's acting normal then I probably wouldn't worry about it! Mine don't usually take breaks from laying unless something was wrong so that's why I asked.
One of my ducks has been laying soft shell eggs lately and sometimes the soft egg has what you're describing attached to the top of it. It's some type of egg material. I think its the inner membrane that the hard shell would usually form over. Is it normal for her to take breaks from egg laying...
I'm thinking I would try sprinkling it over mealworms or peas and hopefully they eat it. I only have one drake so it should be easy enough to separate him long enough for them to eat it on treats rather than in their food.
Does anyone have any experience with this powdered calcium supplement? She does NOT like to be handled so it’s been very difficult to give the liquid calcium gluconate. She fights and bites and I know she’s not getting the whole dose. I tried to give it over peas too and she spit them out. It’s...
I was able to get some today. She was doing better this morning! No egg as expected since she laid two yesterday. But she was running around with the others bug hunting.
She’s always been my best layer with the thickest egg shells so this is very odd for her. We actually lost one of our other ducks back in February and these two were close. Now I’m wondering if stress could have anything to do with it. I didn’t think of it before but the timing is consistent.
Why would a duck still act egg bound after passing a soft shell egg? My Rouen hen has been passing 1-2 soft shell eggs a week since spring started and I’m not sure why. She gets calcium supplements in the form of egg shells, oyster shell, and black fly soldier grubs. She will lay a perfect hard...
That's adorable! I agree with @SilverBirds to try misting her with the water hose to encourage preening. And as long as she has access to water deep enough to clean her eyes and nares she should be fine without swimming.
The vet said at this point she wouldn’t consider her to be egg bound. She seems to think she will pass it on her own. No antibiotics yet but they did give her an anti-inflammatory shot, I forgot to mention that. I just got her to eat a handful of mealworms and she drank some water. So that’s a...
Thank you all for checking on her! The vet couldn’t find anything definitive at this point. X-rays showed fluid in her lungs so possibly a bacterial infection. She also has an egg stuck in her tract that she couldn’t lay today. We started her on dewormer tonight and antibiotics were ordered. She...
