I have two 3 week old straight run Barred Rock chicks (from TSC) and I am pretty sure #1 might be a rooster. His? comb is rather pronounced compared to his sibling. What do you all think?
Year before last, I brought home a handful of “assorted bantam” chicks from TSC. When they grew up, each was a bit different, but they all remained small- as one would expect bantams to. All except for one of them.
This particular chicken is larger than any of my standards, but she is different...
This is this year's brooder ready and waiting for feed store chicks! I am hoping to have a better turn out than last year hatching under a broody mama. She hatched 5 sweet chicklets, but none of them made it. :(
This was last year's brooder with mama inside. Hopefully this year's...
I don't expect the hen who is just hatched a clutch to lay, but I do expect the other bantams to lay and they have always laid in my nesting boxes before, so I don't know what would make them change where they lay.
I have three bantam hens who are about a year old and at the beginning of the summer, I allowed one to go broody and hatch a clutch of eggs. Ever since I removed her from the flock to sit, egg laying has been very scarce and scattered among the bantams. Before, they laid 2-3 eggs collectively...
I have a buff I swore was a roo. She was sold to me as a hen and I was skeptical. I posted her on here and everyone said she was a pullet but that she was developing faster than the others and that was why her wattles and comb were so distinct and red. Sure enough, the day after I posted her...
The EEs are in! They are still getting bullied a bit, but nothing like yesterday. They have plenty of roost space to get away and have set up nest in the duck house....which the ducks never use anyway, so I am fine with that. :) They are eating, and I am pretty sure one is thinking about...
I tried with the BOs one more time and things looked like they were going well, so I left them alone for about thirty minutes. When I came back to check, both EEs had flown up onto the roosts and managed to work their way around the tarp over the run onto the rabbit hutch on the other side. I...

The fifth one down in the second group of pics is definitely a black cochin. I have one and she is SUPER sweet and made a great mother. She's hatched every egg she has ever decided to sit on. She just hatched 5 beautiful babies on the 4th of July and is teaching them so well. I hope its a...
I posted this under managing your flock earlier today and never got a reply....Could anyone help me with the new EE dilemma?
I have never had standard sized chickens until yesterday. I have always loved my bantams, but decided I would give standards a try. I brought home 5 BO hens yesterday...
