Man...I want to go to this, but I KNOW I won't be able to resist bringing home some new additions to my coop. Too many chickens already! But then I get to thinking-- I have too many roosters, so if I buy some new hens to improve the hen-to-rooster ratio, then, well...but I shouldn't!
What to...
Sheep! Raw sheep wool kills me--it's up there with fresh-bread-out-of-the-oven for comforting smells. I had some fleeces in my car for a few days and everyone complained for a long time after that my car smelled like sheep...but I loved it!
I would totally play Farmopoly. But convincing my non-farm-geek friends to play might be hard!
There's a farming video game I love called Harvest Moon. It's especially nice to play in the depths of a cold, dark winter when you're craving a farming fix. If you guys like farming games you should...
dusty: The gold barred roo does not seem to crow that much, and when he does it is a cochin style crow that is not as screechy as some can be for annoying the neighbors! I don't know the limits of your neighbors patience though, it would stink to get him down there and then he starts crowing a...
Any advice/info/experience on using plastic bags as insulation? I'm starting to build coops/pet houses to sell and it would be nice to use cheap "green" recycled material for insulation.
I have access to a LOT of big plastic bags at my job that are just getting thrown in a dumpster right now...
My silkies roost--but their perch is only about a foot and a half off the floor of the coop. I have another roost that is about three feet off the floor, which my non-silkies use.
Maybe non-roosting silkies just can't hop/fly up to a high roost?
Ha! These are the possible suspects: two dads on the outside and the mom in the middle. It's funny because the gold roo looks like a cross between the two dads. Who knows WHAT goes on in that coop...
Good thread...yay for recycling, buying used, bartering, DIY ingenuity and just plain being CHEAP!
Trading is good for cheap media. There are some good websites for trading books, cds, dvds & video games that I've been using for a few months and liking a lot.
paperbackswap.com for books...
Sorry guys, I don't think I want to ship them. I checked into it (never having shipped a chicken before) and it seems to be at least 50 dollars for the special box plus shipping fee, and it's a pretty far distance for them to travel!
Not sure what color any of the hens eggs are. I assume they...
The roosts are overflowing so I've got to thin out the crowd!
I have 5 roosters and 3 hens available, all the roos are free and the hens are 5 dollars each. It would be nice to keep the groups together but I can split them/mix them up if you want.
I'm in Cummington, MA which is halfway...
