Great birds. Curious is the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe even too curious. They sometimes wander off too far, and lost one to a predator this way.
They run to say hi, I don't handle my birds much and can pick these up no problem, work outside all day scratching, relax and passive with...
Separate the broody hen from the nest box for 3 days...not 2, even if you're itching to get her back in with the rest. Three full days and then reintroduce at night. We have a bunch of phoenix that go broody like 10 times a year (they really exaggerate with the broodiness), and have been doing...
I was going to start a thread but see you have some Silver Laced that are the same age as mine. It's my first time with Wyandotte and not sure what to look for. Some say the comb will develop faster on cockerels. Because they have rosecomb, I wonder if it's like the Easter Eggers where the males...
It's a Pietrain, it's a european breed of pigs. We got him from an AI facility. Retired sperm donor, hehe. He had lived his entire life on concrete, when we brought him here it was the very first time he set foot on soft ground...took him a while to get adjusted, but a few sunburns later, he's...
Very nice pictures in here...let's see if I've got a few to contribute :)
Mice killer in training...
In no mood to laugh!

Checking for apples
Perfect is boring!
If there's not many of them, then you girls are breaking ground :)
Here's a photo of another crested one...how they manage to not constantly hit into wall, I don't know?! :
I got 2 crested EE chicks from you. The one above that you can't see the eyes which I think is a cockerel and this one below, which I think is a pullet :) I'm keeping them both even tho I already have too many roosters because they are both so friggen unique!
We also bought 1 Penciled...
I got some chicks (EE's) at Les Farms...funny I find you on this site! We are starting a little hobby farm of our own. Selling a few things just to self sustain, the money we make pays for the feed, etc...so it's like we get the chance to do all of the farming life and it not only doesn't cost...
Ok, it must mean I spend too much time on this website if I'm able to guess the sex right, the first time around.
It's #4 that I'm unsure about the most, I have another orange EE that looks pullet for sure, and it's colouring is not close to #4.
#6
So I got myself a few Easter Egger chicks 6 weeks ago and I've been reading up on how to sex them. I read about the comb...the males having 3 rows of bumps and the females 1. Also I read about the females having a more uniform colouring and the roos being more splotchy. So I have guessed the sex...
Ha! Great article...funny cuz it's true. Point 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9 especially hit home :) The ray of light thing made me laugh because I remember the first time I let my chickens out...which at that time were only a couple of months old. I come back later and they are all laying over with a wing...
I think keeping them on a leash and slowly putting them through the stimulation until it's no longer that interesting for them...I had mine on a leash (a short one) made her sit/lay down and put some chicks near her. She would shake...I would wait. With repetition the tension in her body and the...
Just an update...let my broody hen in with the rest of the flock (and nest boxes) and she's no longer broody!! Back to normal. I'm pumped. Thank you guys for the help/advice!
