I'm currently treating one of my girls for bumblefoot. Have cut her foot open 2x, have been injecting her daily with Penecilin, changing bandages daily. She still lays every day! If this won't keep a chicken from laying, nothing will. Have fun with them.

CFL's are just fine for lighting. Your birds won't care. As for amount of light, I would not leave it on all night long. Just use a time clock of some sort and give them a few extra hours during the cooler months.
