Hello Barred Babies, MysticScorpio82, Desert Rooster! Thanks for the big ol' welcome:-)
ScrappyChicken, heya! When do you think it's gonna cool down? I was talking to an
acquaintance yesterday who has a friend who has lost 4 hens to this heat. She purports
the person has plenty of shade . ...
Yes, it is possible for a hen to 'try' to crow:-) I had a crowing hen. It was cute and very feeble!
Lasted a short time, though. I swear, I think she was just trying to get back at roo and all HIS
sons for the extended, early morning contest. Quite unnerving when the boys are learning.
Thanks tmasker. I'll look into that place. Little bit closer than Ga., where boykin suggested:-)
Nonetheless, I appreciate the info from ALL of you.
Hello to hcppam, b.hromada, 4-H chicken mom, Skitz, and Nicole01. Thanks for the friendly welcome:-)

Thank you so much for the info, tmasker! Well, looks like you've got a lot going on there.

I had a roo that would follow...
My Ohio chickens were free range, which meant I never knew where they were going to lay:-)
When I'd find a spot, I'd wait until the hens disappeared and snatch the eggs, but you can bet
your willies they didn't lay there the next day!
Well thank you all for the nice welcome:-) I'm getting so excited! We're working on the house and as soon as I finished posting earlier, I went over to . . . er . . . work! But we always come home for a break in the afternoon. My mind is buzzing with ideas. I'd never thought of having that many...
I swore I'd never live in this heat ever again. Four years in my early twenties was enough for any Ohio girl to endure, but LOVE brought me back. Recently married, I now live in Lakeland Florida, with a wonderful guy, a girl dog named Pete, and a fixer-upper on an acre +. I had a few chickens up...
