    Yet another nesting box question.

I have 5 hens and 2 identical boxes. They all like the same one. I've seen them waiting in line for the favorite box. You'll be just fine.

Do easter eggers and wyandottes usua;;y have to be older to lay?

My first of 5 EE started laying at 26 weeks. They are now 32 weeks and 2 of them still aren't laying....the slackers! Sure hope one of them lays blue eggs. It will be worth waiting for. So far I have 2 green egg layers and one pink.

    Approaching week 25...NO EGGS?????????????????????

I have 5 easter eggers that will be 26 weeks this Friday. One hen just started laying 5 days ago. One other is squatting, so should be soon for her, but the others aren't giving me any indication that they are close. I think easter eggers could be just a little slower. IT will happen...

    Considering Getting Chickens..Some questions..

I would just recommend getting them young so that you can handle them frequently so they will be tame. And prepare to fall in love. I never dreamed how attached I'd become to a chicken. Enjoy!

    Dog incident

I have a beagle and a larger hound that are both wonderful with the girls. The beagle was interested at first - I caught her licking her lips once while watching them, but I scolded her and have never had another incident. She even shares food with them now. You might google the dog...

    No one ever told me...

No one told me how attached I would become to a chicken. They have very distinct personalities and some make wonderful pets. I had NO idea.

Should I still let my chickens free range?

Free range or not - such a dilemma. I lost my very favorite hen to a coyote today. I'm SO sad, but can't imagine cooping them up. I'll just be more careful when I allow them out of the coop in the morning. We also have red tail hawks around, but I've never heard of them going for adult...

You might be a crazy chicken lady/gent if...Go on, post yours!

When you seriously tell your dh that you'll have to plant more tomatoes next year (not for more tomatoes - we have plenty) so that we'll have even more big green tomato hornworms since that is their very favorite treat! And he agrees-what a guy! I've considered posting on facebook that I'd...

My baby chicken became to a good friend with my puppy

My beagle and my EE hens sometimes eat leftovers out of the same dish. She also follows them around trying to figure out what they find so interesting when they scratch in the dirt for insects. I posted this video on youtube to share with my daughter.

    Something got our Ricky today

Oh, I do feel your pain. Who would have thought we could get so attached to chickens? Dogs, yes. Cats, yes. But chickens? I cried lots when my very favorite hen didn't return to the coop last night at dark. I went out to look for the feathers this AM, and there she was! Happy as could be...

Best biological control for my tomatoes!

I'm newly addicted to chicks. We've lived on our farm for about 24 years, but only grow citrus and nuts. When I retired last year, my husband suggested we start raising a few chickens for eggs. My EEs are now about 3 months old. A couple of the hens are particularly tame - they come when...
