Hi, I didn't see this earlier. Well, he's definitely aggressive towards humans, whether that's because of his defined space or not I don't think he's going to change :hmm.
A legbar hen has been in with him long enough to start collecting. I really don't think she cares for him either so I hope...
Well, that's definitely not what I paid for, but my original *blue* chicks turned out to be lavenders with tiny muffs, so that could be so of them and maybe the two old hens left were the ones who were in with the d'uccle roo. That's quite possible, thanks for that info!
Mine certainly aren't dainty eaters! I'm looking forward to when all 13 of the TX group get big enough to fend for themselves and I can breed them with my last year's. I also received 3 chicks from Papa's Poultry since last posted (along with more of his awesome Orps), so now I my CCLB...
I stopped turning daily a few years back and have had small 100% collected batches in a mixed incubator. Once every couple days (even 3) is common (then once in awhile 2X in a day). I don't think I've had less success doing this. I don't fuss much on candling, but usually once at about 10 days...
I have one nice big unfriendly roo, but my pullets met an untimely fate. I've got eggs coming from an ebay seller soon. I put a cream legbar hen in with him. The crest should stay, breed back to Dampierre and maybe 2nd cross will result in half black mottled color pattern. I've got mille...
I have 12 6-week old chicks in a pen together with a small hanging feeder and a bottle baby goat as their neighbor, so I have a chance to watch them eat after I give them feed as I'm feeding the goat. They do seem to eat differently than most breeds I have -- they don't peck, they act like an...

I continue to acquire the darkest Marans eggs for new roos to hatch and incorporate them, so I know for sure what their egg color started out.
A predator slaughter occurred last summer and I lost 3 of 6 F2 blue hens and my only mature Marans roo for B line, so that was a setback, but will be...
I hatched out 3 this spring eggs mailed from TX supposed to be from the GFFs imports. It's appearing that there is 1 cock and 2 pullets, who may all be closely related. My concern is how best to expand the gene pool here?
I ordered 4 LF pullets in 2018 from Ideal after learning that a Minnesota hatchery was no longer selling them.
3 are deep red/mahogany and 2 of them have better markings than the 3rd, and these also have least brassy necks, which I don't think is much at all. They have nice black tail...
