We live in Southern CA in a canyon where we often see coyotes and bob cats. Our setup is a fenced in 20x20 run which is about 6 feet tall, with a then mesh netting on the top covering the entire run. Inside the run is their coop, which we never close.
Yesterday we had to put one of our four...
Our chickens had a battle with respiratory issues and coccidia at a young age, and were on doxycycline for a long time in order to recover. Only one has been laying eggs as she should, but the other 2 have not followed suit. Is there a chance they may never lay?
I am treating sneezing with doxycycline both in their water, and given orally. The vet we have been seeing has us on a 21 day cycle of this. It's getting pretty expensive to continue these meds.
I had 3 4mo old's that were diagnosed with coccidia, and had it for amount a month before I finally acted on treating them. I fed them corrid for a week and luckily they overcame it.
Now though they are sneezing, which I am working to treat with doxycycline.
They are around 4-5 months old now. We took them to a vet, which diagnosed the coccidia based on a stool sample. We 1st treated that for a week, and then began treating the sneezing using doxycycline.
And still nothing is working! I am administering .5ml with a syringe, and using the powder version in their water. Any other tips? They are also coming off a battle with coccidia as well.
I was just looking into this too. I found DE, and wood ash for sale on amazon which I plan to use. What other types of sand, dirt, are people using when constructing these?
Hey - this might be way past, but I am treating using doxycycline currently for coccidian. The measurements in water are 1 teaspoon to 4 cups of water. And if giving it to them with a syringe, if under 1 years of age .5ml and if over 1 year of age, then 1ml. Those were based on weight, but will...
I am always seeing small black ants in the coop bedding. Is this normal? They don't seem bothered by them, but I notice them when I am cleaning it out and putting new bedding in.
Will do. Right now the vet has us administering .5ml of doxycycline with a syringe, and then also adding the 1 teaspoon into their 4 cups of water for the next few weeks. Will update as things progress.
